Thought recording several midi tracks to one audio track in the easiest thing in the world. But after selecting a new track, setting to audio and press play and record, nothing will be recorded. Any hint where I might look for a fix?
Thanks

Your soundcard's software mixer.

Also, what are you using for MIDI output -- software or hardware, because they are recorded differently.

If using a softsynth, see if you can find a "What U Hear" setting, or perhaps it is called, "Stereo Mix" or "Direct Monitor" or even something else.

Hardware has to be connected to the Line Input from its audio outputs and Line Input must be selected in the Record mixer of your soundcard. PT must be set to record Stereo, not mono in either case.

Can't record what isn't directed to the Record mixer input...

Thanks, WHAT YOU HEAR helped. I can now hear and record audio in PT. One more drawback: the recording is crunchy and not to be used. Changed the slide ruler to meek 40 %. Much less will not record. But that has no effect. Is there another setting to look for?

Don't know what you mean by "slide ruler" but it may be that your signal is too hot and thus clipping.

The RECORD fader is a different one from the PLAYBACK fader, you must find the Recording fader for the What U Hear input and adjust that one.

Use the VU meters inside PT to confirm, the LH meters are for the RECORD or INPUT side of things, the RH is for the Playback or Output.

Sorry, meant "fader". It was the WYH fader! Will check with the VU meters tomorrow. I am 6 hrs ahead of you.
Thanks.
