The theremin never ceases to amaze me. Here are a couple of great clips with this instrument. 1. Theme from Midsomer Murders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTZK9FNgK742. Debussy's Claire De Lune https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ptq_N-gjEpISeems to me that BIAB would make an excellent accompaniment device for a theremin. Regards, Noel P.S. I don't know if I've posted about a theremin before or not. If I have, I apologize but I thought the instrument is interesting enough to risk doubling up!

Clara Rockmore was the queen of the theremin. To me its magical to watch and listen to her play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSzTPGlNa5U

When the Theremin is in the capable hands of someone who possesses that which in the music world we call good ears, someone who has actually seriously spent the kind of time in the woodshed that it takes to master a musical instrument, it can indeed have its moments.
Those without the good ears or the serious practice time often contribute towards the instrument getting an undeserved bad name.

I went to an science exhibition quite a few years ago and was lucky enough to be allowed to have a go at playing one. I say lucky as I think the rest of the listeners did not agree as the laughter and groans soon showed. I would love one and curse Pat Marr for giving me a link Jimmy Page playing the ThereminAlyn

noel,
i have always had an interest in the instrument since seeing the diy kit in the paia catalog in the 60s. thank you for sparking renewed interest in the theremin. in the one link (i've forgotten which) it sounded like a fabulous soprano vox. i imagined it subbing for a live vocalist with biab.

My Dad gave me a Theremin he built for me 4 months ago when he visited me. It uses an optical lightsensor. It`s hard to play, though, because the range of the available notes depends on the amount of light available. It`s also a very small box of 10x10 cm, so each semitone has only avery small distance to the next one.
I love it though, because my Dad made it for me, who I met for the first time in my life. BTW, I also got a Xaphoon from him (not selfmade;-))

Sandra, the Xaphoon can really be used onstage in the jazz environment if one chooses to practice up on the thing.
Live performances played back as recordings, almost everybody mistakes it for a Soprano Sax.
Well, maybe not if the genre is fast bebop or modern jazz, due to fingering possibilities etc, but it works a treat in many Cooljazz settings.
And it can be fun as well, for the player.
Take a different kind of solo every once in a while...

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
