Surely somebody knows without guessing what it takes to implement a footswitch to start and stop Band in a Box. For starters, I have a frontier tranzport whose footswitch is nonfunctional with BIAB, so says the manual. So do I toss it out and use what???? Thanks

I don't have a Tranzport, but that doesn't seem like correct information.
The footswitch should be programmable in that thing, IIRC the Frontier Tranzport website materials I studied awhile back. You might check with Frontier (google their webpage) as well as directly to pgmusic support via the email or tollfree phonelin about that.
I use a programmable USB footswitch available from an outfit called Delcom Engineering. I programmed it to be a Spacebar command to my laptop and have set BIAB's global Pref for the Spacebar to stop and start songs.

I've been using the triple action version of the fentek pedal for several years. The double and single should work well also. http://www.fentek-ind.com/FootPedal.htm All you have to do is plug the pedal into a USB port and program the pedal to send keystrokes to the computer when pressed.

Long before I invested in a programmable USB footswitch, I picked up a cheap USB computer qwerty keyboard, pulled off all the keys in the bottom three rows except for the spacebar.
Placed it on the floor and used that spacebar like a footswitch.
