just got back from the veteran's administration medical center in muskogee and they ordered me one of these: http://www.dynavoxtech.com/products/maestro/it has win 7/32 and an 85 gig hard drive. colo(u)r me elated. probably will take a month or so for my little (90 pound) speech therapist to ramrod it through the red tape but she's moved mountains for me before. her name is alyssa. thank her and i'll pass it on to her. i told her that i compose music and hope to sing with my maestro. she gave me a knowing wink.

Congratulations Don! Just checked out some youtube videos on the Maestro and was very impressed.
It's so good to see computer/audio/video technology being used to help people instead of creating games like Grand Theft Auto which do just the opposite.
I wonder if PGMusic could tweek the BIAB interface or partner up with Dynavox to give some of the severely disabled a chance to let out their inner musical voice.
Who knows how many child prodigies may be here trapped inside themselves, waiting to come out and enrich our lives.
Please keep us posted on the value you find using the Maestro in helping you with your music. Best wishes, Carkins

thanks for the encouragement my friends. actually, i am not new to the concept or the technology. i have had my current dynavox v/max device for about two years. the maestro is the newest model and has a win 7 os as opposed to win xp. i have win 7/64 on my desktop so i can now do some custom apps easier for my dynavox. the exciting part...i will get 9 hours of talk time, not just 2.
carkins, i have no doubt that biab will run beautifully on my maestro. i have never tried it on my win xp model. whenever a text field appears, an on-screen keyboard pops up to enter text. i am tempted to run biab from its external usb drive and provide a report to peter. it constitutes a very tiny market to cause much interest, unfortunately. then there is the matter of touch screen input method. i like your idea though.
they are not inexpensive devices. my older one was us$9,000.00. i think the maestro tops $16,000.00 as near as i can determine. add a couple thousand for accessories like a voltage converter to power it from my wheelchair and a mounting arm and it runs into serious bux (loonies). i have a $15,000.00 power wheelchair that alyssa ramrodded through bureaucracy for me and none of it has cost me a nickel.

pat, it was ewe that started me t'contemplating the idea of teaching it t'sing fer me! i love a challenge. woodin it be lovely? (nice song title) croaking with a $16,000.00 dynavox maestro? might make the tabloids. but, seriously, the dynavox rep, after learning that i use it in my door-to-door ministry, wants to do a "success story" on me and take me on visits to other veterans' hospitals. just think if i COULD sing with it!?

Don, if anybody could generate a success story for this product it will be you! You have the positive attitude, the clearly defined goal, the talent and the time to make just about any miracle happen!
Of course you can sing with it! Even if you use melodyne or similar product to add pitch to the words, it is totally doable... and you're just the guy to do it!
Keep us posted!

pat, didn't i see your hand shoot up for volunteers? wudnit be a fun collaboration project for all of us on this forum? you have a very fertile mind (don't dwell too long on that compliment). i can provide an audio file of me reciting the lyrics, then what? i don't own melodyne nor the disposable income to buy it. how much does it cost and are there any free or open source equivalent program(e)s available? you gave me many links to wave shaping applications but, alas, i can't get my head wrapped around them. remember, i'm terminally irish! there once was a time! but no longer, sadly.

check your PM for an email address where you can send an audio file or your project's music plus a separate audio file of the spoken lyrics. I'll see if I can introduce a melody to the spoken lyrics and make it match the song. (If you have a melody in mind, include that in the ausio file... then when I send the vocals back, you can mute the melody and replace it with your singing ---------------- update: I tried to send you a PM with my email, but got the message "This user is not accepting private messages" (You could PM me and include your personal email address, and I will reply with my email address so you can send me the files)

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
