That chart is beautiful. It will be hanging in my studio soon! I work at a place with plotters and I may get it printed BIG on a plotter and build a big frame for it.

NOW, take those chord formulas and look at where the red dots are. Start at "zero" and count the half steps and you see how it works.

Eddie,
if you reproduced that chart in large poster size by using a plotter, I bet there's a market for such posters. In fact, there are similar charts online for guitar chords, bass chords etc.

I'd like a large chart of all the key features I use in BIAB. That would replace all those dang sticky notes on the wall beside the computer

(I keep a chart very much like this one in a picture frame that hangs on the wall above my keyboard)

If this is the type of chord format you like then pick up the paperback book “Chords for Keyboard and Guitar” by Hal Leonard, ISBN 0-7935-4536-6, http://www.amazon.com/Chords-Keyboard-Guitar-Paperback-Songs/dp/0793545366#_

It’s only $8.99 USD and has over 1800 pictured chords for guitar and keyboard.

Just remember, on this one from Sinbad: http://valuesearch.info/chordfind/Default.aspx

it doesn't know 11th or 13th chords or their variants like 7#11. It will tell you whether a 4th (same note as 11th) or 6th (same note as 13th) is in the lower octave or upper by the order, but it doesn't have the intelligence to spell the chord correctly with an 11th or 13th. It's only mostly acceptable up to a 9th. And if you have a m7 and add a 9th, for example, it should know to drop the 7. Too bad they couldn't finish it correctly, because this utility has a lot of promise. BIAB has the MIDI chord recognition feature that does not make these mistakes.

The chordfind utility link also has no protection about too many notes to make a 'useable' chord, since if you 'drop a book on the keyboard' it tells you every note.

here's an EXCEL based chord finder I created in collaboration with another guy. It can be downloaded from the files section of the Yahoo BIAB group files 2. (Side note: you must be a member of the Yahoo BIABgroup and also be logged in to yahoo groups in order for these links to work)

----------------------
(view whole directory)
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Band-in-a-Box-Files/files/Misc%20Files%20%26%20Utilities/

(download file)
http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Band-...ies/chords3.xls

----------------------
It uses macros so you'll need to enable them in order for this to work.

In a nutshell, you pick an instrument and a chord and it will show you all the notes in the chord on the instrument neck (you can see more than one position at once... so you can get a birds eye view of which position to use for the current song.

It also lets you add new instruments or different tunings, then see the chords for thos tunings. Currently supports many guitar tunings, banjo, mandolin, lute, ukelele, keyboard, fiddle, and more.

The sppreadsheet has 4 tabs:
1=guitar
2=the engine aka spreadsheet logic (all editable if you want to improve it)
3=keyboard
4=a place where you can enter up to 5 notes, and chords containing those notes will be displayed.

If you are an EXCEL or Visual Basic enthusiast, it is an interesting project to study.. and it's all editable... nothing is locked out or hidden

Good point Mac. When I said that I was thinking of my chart which was made personally in Excel by coloring cells. I do think theres a market for poster sized chord sheets, but you would want to sell your own version of the idea.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
