Ok is there a clear choice out there. I have been with IE forever, but recently having a rash of issues in my browser so I am thinking maybe time to try something new. Is there a clear substitute in either Chrome or Firefox? Don't need any long desciptions as I can do some homework, just a brief recommendations on what has proven well for folks here/ Thanks Oh, by the way, security is my prime consideration, viruses and malware is just getting crazy out there.

Hi Dan

I like Firefox. I've been using it for years. I've found it incredibly reliable. You can always load it on your computer, try it out and, if you don't like it, uninstall it. It's freeware and so doesn't cost a penny.

As an added protection against webpages with lurking nasties, I use the Firefox add-on "No Script" which stops any automatic scripts loading on pages I navigate to. I then have the option of allowing the scripts to run or not. For regular webpages I visit - such as PG Music my bank, etc. - I permanently enable them to run scripts.

For what it's worth, I also use Thunderbird, the Mozilla email client with the Lightning calendar add-on. LIke Firefox, I've found Thunderbird very sturdy.

Hope this helps,
Noel

I like Chrome because it seems to do a better job storing passwords. Plus the Speed Dial plugin where you can create a page of shortcut icons it a bonus fir me. But bottom line, that start page is nothing I couldn't create myself, and they all just take you to web pages.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

I suggest Firefox also, but every browser has its caveats.
Chrome renders some things wrong; spacing etc Not a biggie, but annoying.

I've seen situations where IE won't work with certain software, and others where Firefox doesn't. Keep whatever you use up to date.
Firefox has issues with Backofficeplus ecommerce software .. IE doesn't like Presstopia or Vevo shopping cart, I guess none are perfect.

If you are into 'add-ons' Firefox is hard to beat. Firebug and Tilt 3D are great web development tools. No-Script is good for questionable sites.
IE's Developer tools are pretty cool too, being able to use IE 7,8, & 9 in one window.

When doing development I use Firefox, but I also have to test in IE since it is so popular. Chrome seems to always work, but like I said earlier, it has issues with exact rendering...

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Well, when it DOESN'T work on a specific web page, we know who's fault it is.....

I moved to Chrome. My experience is it seems faster and loads quicker. Only thing i do not like if i click on a file link that it downloads automatically to my download folder instead of waiting for me to select. On IE it invokes freedownloadmanager for me.

Otherwise its Chrome, even on my iPad ....

I'm doing allright for Country Trash ....

I used to care, but things have changed (Bob Dylan)

Yeah, I've got to go with Chrome as well. Faster and more stable than IE with a nice uncluttered welcome screen. Been using it since it became available and never had a problem.

CountryTrash - there's a setting where you can ask for a prompt for a download location.

I use Firefox on one computer and Chrome on another. Both have their benefits and quirks, and both are better than MS Internet Explorer IMHO.

Why not download and install all or several to your machine, and give them all a fair test drive over time, then decide on the one you like best?

You don't have to uninstall IE, for example, in order to install Firefox or Chrome or whatever.

Some of us like to be able to see our website publications as they might appear in the different browsers, so we keep all the web browsers installed, even though we may not use most of them for anything but that.

And all of them typically give you the option of importing bookmarks from the default browser upon install, as well.

Don't forget about Opera!

I've been a long time Firefox user, but I've moving towards Chrome for some time. Then I hit a website that's heavy with ads, and miss the AdBlock plugin.

I had a bunch of stuff audio project files I needed to back up onto Google Drive the other day, and Chrome (unsurprisingly) has better support for GMail features like copying all the files in a directory.

But I'm not quite ready to make the leap.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Can't for he life of me figure out why for so many this has to be an either/or situation...

Use what works best for the task at hand, I say.

A lot has to do with your geek level. So many people don't know there ARE other browsers because MSIE comes with Windows. Half of my callers when I worked at the ISP didn't know what "browser" meant.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
