I thought I'd already posted this but it's not here - I think it's the "preview post" option that looks like you've posted but haven't without one more click... I think that should be off by default I made a song with BIAB 2012.5 and I hear a "doubling" of parts, especially noticeable on the drums, as a short delay/repeat of the snare hits. When I went through and muted each track to find it, it was the "Audio" track. Turning this off fixed the problem. But where did this come from? I don't remember putting anything on the track, and I can't see where it's getting anything from. I did export the song as a WAV file - does that go back on the Audio track? Please let me know what's going on here, thanks!

Hi Lindsayward, if you look at the Quick replay window, there is a "Preview Reply" check box on your left hand side that you can uncheck, I don't think it will be back by itself unless you check it back up. As for the Audio track, I'm not quite sure how or why sometimes the audio track is generated when creating a song. usually there's a delay between the audio track when present and the BIB song. If it shows in white, there is no audio track, if yellow, there is an audio track; in that case just mute it or delete it all together. I'm sure someone else with full knowledge of this will jump right in.

An Echo in the Audio track is most often caused by using a computer that has a built in Microphone or Mic attrached and the Soundcard's Record Properties are set with the Mic turned on. Muting the Audio will stop you from hearing that, but the problem is still there. Go to your sound device's Control Panel and if it is a Windows built in sound device, use the Options menu to select Properties and then select Record Properties o view the Record Mixer and Mute the MIC input.

Hi Cuban Pete, Thanks for the repl(a)y... I spent a while looking for the "quick replay" window in Band-in-a-box and searched the help, then the Internet before realising that "replay" was the typo not "reply" (second mention) and you were talking about the forum not the program. Right, thanks.
My audio track is yellow (at the top of the window, not the mixer (don't know why they wouldn't match up)). If I click on this I get the settings window and the "Kill audio" option, which does get rid of the audio track. Problem solved, but still not question answered. Does anyone know where this came from (and thus how to prevent it in future)?
Thanks again.

What sometimes happens to me is that I hear the song duplicated, one slightly behind the other.
I then found that if I select Play->Un-Render song from Audio Track(Enables Tracks, erase Audio Tracks) solves the issue.
I'm doing allright for Country Trash ....
I used to care, but things have changed (Bob Dylan)

When BiaB loads a file, by default it checks to see if there is an audio file with the same name in the current directory. If there is, it will automatically load that into the audio track as well.
If you rendered the drum tracks by muting all the tracks except for the drums, that's probably how the track got created with the same name. Right clicking on the track, and they creating a .WAV file for only that track is probably the simplest thing to do if you only want a single track rendered.
Also, there's an option to turn that automatic behavior off, but I'm away from my computer right now, so can't look it up. But if you turn it off, BiaB will stop automatically loading the audio file, which is probably what you're after.

This is more likely what is happening, not to say that what Mac is saying is not true, but I know that I had the same situation before (not very often) and never have a mike connected and no built in one.

Thanks folks. Yes, as I mentioned in the first post, I did export a WAV for the song, so that must be it. (It's a desktop with no built-in mic.) I found the option on the first page of the Preferences (bottom-left), where it says: "When opening BB song, open MP3/WMA with same name" This is now switched off, so my problem is solved! Thanks very much for everyone's help. I'm liking these forums (well, these people actually) so far

That's great, lindsayward.
Sorry for the wrong direction, but very happy we have so many good minds here to help sort out things like this.
The spirit of the Band in a Box user forums, I hope you'll stick around these pars and if someone else has the same problem that YOU will pitch in and help THEM solve that. Pay it forward, as it were.
In the meantime, "Have Fun!"

Interesting. That doesn't work for me (build 350). Using the PG demo song "Listen" (found in the audio harmonies tutorial folder), which has an accompanying wav file of same name, that wav file loads even with that option disabled. It does say it's for MP3/WMA files. Glad your issue is fixed, but I suspect it's because you removed the wav, not because that option is disabled. No?
BTW, for newbs and future searchers, *rendering* to wav does not create this issue because the resulting wav file is not named exactly the same as the original song. It has a string something like "_rendered" appended to the name.

I spoke too soon. (I think I just anticipated it was solved without testing it more.) BIAB does still load the WAV file if it exists (with same name). The option is only for MP3/WMA as it says, so I guess there's no option for WAV - it just opens it automatically whether you like it or not. So the 'solution' is to not have a WAV file with the same name in the song folder...

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
