From one use to the next the mouse and keyboard stopped working. Multiple reboots haven't helped. System specs below. Mouse is MS wireless with fresh batteries, keyboard is MS Natural 4000 ergo, essentially brand new. Lemme know what more information is needed.
Thanks,
R.

Before you take your Daw to the shop can you borrow another keyboard and mouse to see if the problem is with them or your computer? The reason I say this is that my wife’s mouse and keyboard would periodically stop working but when I put mine on her system everything was fine. Both the mouse and keyboard went bad at the same time. Weird but true!

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310575i've found the instructions under Remove and reinstall all USB controllers helpful when i'm having usb connection issues i first remove all usb devices except the keyboard & mouse i remove all but the mother board, in my case intel, ports of course with a mouse and keyboard once you remove the port that they're connected to they won't work but removing the usb cable and reinserting it brings it back i then reconnect the other devices i'm currently using and reboot

Dongel's gone bad?
Possible but unlikely. Keyboard is hardwired.

Try opening the case with power disconnected, locate the power plugs from psu to motherboard, disconnect and reseat them.

There's been a lot of weird $#!+ going on around here, so it has taken me a while to revisit this. I haven't opened up the case, but I did try using different USB ports. Seems that the dedicated mouse and keyboard ports have both gone bad, or lost power, or something. Buying a hub would be cheaper than putting it in the shop, but I'd still like the thing to work like it's supposed to. What could make two ports on the mainboard fail while others continue to work?

If they are on the front of the computer case there is most likely a wire running from them to a plugin on the motherboard. Check that and see if it worked loose. Edit: I just realized from your description that they are probably the ones in back that are hard wired.

If the USB ports are in the front of the puter, do what I said above about going inside and reseating connects.
If the USB ports are in the back, which typically means that they are soldered directly to the mobo, you likely have other problems. But you should still go inside and try reseating all the power connectors that go to the motherboard before calling it a nogo.
**Check the System Hardware applet in Control Panel, look at the USB stuff in the list, check for no exclamation points there, try updating the drivers for the USB to replace a possibly corrupted driver. Reboot the machine and check operation.

I had a similar thing happen with a wireless mouse and it turned out to be the usb dongle. I relaced it with a wired mouse and all was ok.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
