I just did some cut an paste searching and there are definitely quite a few of the Midi Styles Sets missing. I have opened the PDF that lists the styles in the packs, and there is a large percentage missing...

Supposed to be all 77 packs installed, seems the installation misses installing them, or they were not packed up in the downloads...

Any ideas?

UPDATE: I can now find them doing a windows explorer search in the BB directory, but they do not come up in the Style Picker screen....

Hi Dennis,

A couple of things spring to mind ....

Go into the Style Picker window and try ...

1) clicking on "Show All" at the top of the screen just to make sure that nothing is stuck in the filter.

2) On the lower centre of the Picker window is a button called "Find new styles". Click on this and it will rebuild the list of styles. That might pick them up.

Regards,
Noel

Actually what is interesting is along the top window bar it says [Total Style Entries = 8,990] List is not filtered.

But below this where it says All Styles [xxxx] the number is 3363???

Confusing.

Well I tried that suggestion as well as the Re-build command and still those styles do nto appear...the only thing I can think of is that some how the styles have some sort of link embedded for a C drive location???

They are on the D drive as I can find them in a Windows search, but not within BIAB....

Hi Dennis,

Reading your first post, it sounds like they are in the \bb folder. This is where they need to be.

Another thought just occurred to me ...

When you look in Style Picker, double-check "All Styles" selected in the left-side window; see #1 on the below image.

This left-hand window is a quick way of filtering styles and unless you select "All Styles", the list will be filtered by whatever genre/style is selected.

Also, the number 3363 indicates how many styles are installed while the number 8990 indicates how many listings are present in the Style Picker. Most styles have multiple listings in the categories defined by the above mentioned left-hand filter (Country, Jazz, Rock, etc.).

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel, yep that button was definitely checked. Do the Midi style packs get installed concurrently with the BIAB/RealBand porgam install? As I can see no other installer for them.

Maybe deleting the BIAB folder and re-installing from scratch might get them to show up?

At the moment I CAN use them by manually clicking on a style in a windows explorer box search, but this only is fine IF I know the style by name to use. There are 77 Midi Style packs as you know and when trying to find a styel for a song it would be REALLY beneficial if all styles for BIAB were listed in the BIAB searching view.

Ah well, I will keep trying to hunt for a solution.

Cheers

Hi Dennis,

Yes, the styles are installed when BIAB/RB programs are installed (at least that's how it seems to work for me). There's no need to delete the program, simply re-install over the top of the existing folder.

Have you installed the latest update? (We're up to #366 at the moment.) Sometimes that fixes things. Note, if you re-install BIAB/RB, you'll also need to re-install the update.

Also, you said ...

I'm not quite sure which button you mean. What I was meaning in the above post was that it's necessary to select "All Styles" in the "Category" window/list to see all the styles. In the image in my previous post, "Other Styles Found" is selected and not "All Styles".

The Category window is a quick filter and if, for example, "Country" is selected, the style picker window will be empty if a particular set of styles does not contain country styles.

Oh, if I re-install, would that also wipe out the "favourites" listings?

First make sure you don't have the styles list filtered to show only Feel or Tempo matches to the style currently selected.

If, for example, all the styles you do see are EV and not SW...

Hi again, Dennis.

Its seems that I'm not explaining myself very well. My apologies for that. I should have created a new graphic rather simply rely on a pre-existing one.

It's true that I have a ring around "Show All" in the above picture, but I also have the numeral "1" next to "All Styles". It's the "1" to which I'm referring. See the new image below. The yellow cross indicates what I'm meaning.

"All styles" is what should also be selected.

If this is not selected, then BIAB won't show all available styles.

Regarding your question about Favorites, to be honest, I'm not sure. My feeling is that if you install over the top of an existing installation, Favorites will not be lost. That's just a guess though. Certainly if you delete the program and then reinstall, Favorites will be lost.

Kind regards,
Noel

yeah m8, that is done too...All Styles is definitely highlighted...

More and more I am thinking this may be an installation glitch...I might start testing a few more at random from the Midi Sets folders...I have only come across 7 that are missing..I sorta stopped there to start asking here...

It's okay guys...just had my "DUH!!" moment....

The style sets are all .MGU files...I kept thinking they were .sty files and was trying to find these in the style picker. I just loaded up one of the "missing" styles using the Song Picker instead and sure enough it loaded. What I discovered is the Midi sets use existing styles from the library using the generic style library name but assigning a more accurate name in the Midi Sets folders.

Example: RayChar1 uses ^_BBBLUES style NOT a style called RayChar1

Sorry for the hassle...

Hi Dennis,

Glad you got it working. That's useful information, too. Thanks for posting the solution.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
