Hi Ellrod,

What would you like to slow down? The tempo control will slow the whole song if that's what you're after.

Kind regards,
Noel

There are stand-alone audio file slow-down programs, if that's what you are looking for. As Noel mentioned, let us know what you want to do. But as far as BIAB, you can do amazing things with just the tempo control, because the RealTracks and RealDrums can adjust to pretty wide swings in tempo.

Use the tempo drop down if you want the whole song at a slower tempo but I think that you will have to use the tempo map and do the math if you want a gradual ritardando. A gradual retadando would be a nice wish-list feature if it's not there in 2014 (I'm not at my computer at the moment).

My understanding is that the tempo change can only be applied at bar level using F5, so this is not ideal for ritardando. Others might have further information on how to best apply rit. within BiaB, otherwise, Matt's suggestion is about the only option.

Ritardondo can be accomplished easily with the Bar Settings by using the "percentage" slowdown insread of the Beat Per Minute option, but must be entered bar-by-bar.

Using Percentages instead of BPM makes the process more "human" minded - and avoids having to perform arithmetic in order to get the kind of ritardondo you want for the particular piece.

Using the percentages, you can make the ritard linear or logarithmic as suits.

I haven't tried this but it might work...

Render the song directly to a .wav file (i.e. as the song plays) and the controls like the tempo wheel should be live, so when you want to slow down the song slow down the tempo, for example if you want the last 12 bars to start slowing down, give the tempo wheel a click or two per bar until you reach the end.
Like I said, I haven't tried this but the logic seems workable as long as the controls are still 'live' during recording.

I have rarely used the "slow down" process to end a song.... I think I did one time, but that was before BB so it was simply a matter of recording the parts like I wanted.

I think you can set a different tempo on a measure by measure basis..... but that's not really the best way to slow to a stop at the end.... I imagine that would sound like a stepped process...

Another option is a plug in (which I believe is free) called GLITCH. I think this thing, among all the other things it does, has a function that sounds like a record coming to a fairly quick stop.

Perhaps there is a way to use a DAW and draw a tempo map/curve controller.....

Since I don't use slowdowns in my songs, I'm afraid I'm not up to speed on exactly how I would accomplish this in BB or RB.

We need the original poster to come back. We still do not know what is being requested. It could be about BIAB or it could be about slowing songs for transcription or learning licks etc.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
