I am trying to use BIAB just to print a chart. I would like to print it as one chorus, with intro and 1st/2nd ending. I first have the melody, chords, and lyrics entered just as if there are no repeats. Here is the layout:

measures 1-8 intro
measures 9-40 chorus (with 37-40 to be the 1st ending)
measures 41-50 as ending coda (2nd ending should start at measure 41)

It is set to play measures 1-50 one time, as one big chorus (though I really don't care about it being played; just for printing).

I then add repeat and endings as follows:

Select "1st/2nd endings" radio button
Repeat begins at Bar # 9
1st ending begins at bar # 37
1st ending lasts for 4 bars
Ending type: 1st/2nd endings
Generate (insert) new bars is NOT checked

After doing this, in the chord display, the repeat and first ending shows correctly. But everything from measure 41 on is showing gray. And the 2nd ending indicator is showing up out on measure 69!

When I go to Lead Sheet Window to try and print, in Fake Sheet Mode, it shows repeat and 1st ending correctly, but then stops; no display of anything after measure 40. If I turn off Fake Sheet Mode, it prints everything, but just as I originally entered it: no repeat and 1st/2nd ending notation.

Any ideas??

It is easier for me to actually see the score. Maybe a screen capture. Look through this and see if it helps

Attached are several screencaps (I hope it works!):
- Chord display before adding endings/repeats, with inset of what is being added.
- Chord display after changes.
- Print of lead sheet in Fake Book Mode
- Print of lead sheet not in FBM

Also note that the fake book print wants to take the lyrics from the ending section and stick them in like a second chorus. ??

I did follow the instructions from the tutorial and still get this result. BTW, I'm on BIAB 2007, if that might be causing an issue.

Thanks!

Your printout of the fakesheet is telling you everything you need to know. I think you are trying to use 1st/2nd ending to define where the song ends and goes into the tag ending.

You told BIAB to repeat the first 28 bars after the 1st ending. That is the greyed out area which happens to be 28 bars long. Not to get anymore into specifics of what you did, try this.

1. Delete your 1st/2nd ending
2. Define your song ending at measure 40 (currently 50)
3. Add a tag after 36 to start at 41 and ends at 50

You'll have to change the number of choruses to more than one. You can't put a tag on a single chorus song.

This is what I would do.

I'm finally getting back to looking at this. The suggestion of using tags rather than 1st/2nd endings doesn't seem to help me with printing. I would like to print everything, including the different ending (whether it is considered a tag or a 1st/2nd ending). But printing from the lead sheet just ignores the tag ending, so same result as before. Is there a way to have the print include the final tag/coda section??

- In Leadsheet options, check 'Fakesheet include ending bars'.

- In Print Options, check 'Whole Song'

Noel has a post where he has pictures of all of this. When he wakes up, maybe he'll see this and post link.

Ah, that seems to do it! I thought I had tried that, and was getting ALL choruses printing. But I guess I hadn't done the whole song / fake sheet / include ending bars combination.

Thanks for your help and patience!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
