Wrote this as part of a songfight.org challenge. I started off in songsmith, but I changed keys three times trying to get the melody in (LOL!). Just went to BIAB and started off with a Nora Jones type style -- POPBALL5.STY (Pop Ballad 5 - Ev. 8 Ballad) and then typed the chords in. I kept the default midi bass, piano, real drums (RockLiteEven8^4-Blastix,Snare) and soprano sax melody part. Then I added in realtracks: 362:Guitar, Acoustic, Strumming Ev 085 365:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Ev 085 409:Fiddle, Background George Ev 085. My parts are the vocals an acoustic lead guitar part. I still want to do a lot of polishing, but the songfight thing is due tonight I think, so this might be it for this round. Nice.
Kind of puts the kebash on those who seem to think that Songsmith is junk, huh? Same as with other programs, some folks try it once or maybe three times and blame bad results on the program, others, knuckle down and get to work, find the good things the proggie can do -- and exploit them.

Hi Kevin, I am now listening to your song for the third time. I really like it. Your use of panning on the vocal is very imaginative and effective. There's no doubt about it, this song is well written, well arranged and well mixed. Kudos to you All the best, Noel

Very nicely done. This has a "Bread" type of vibe to it. Excellent song and mix brother.
I enjoyed it.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for all the kind words. I haven't been able to hit any harmonies for this one (too bad I don't have melodyne), so I am trying to get my wife to add some parts before I send it away.
Re Songsmith: I have a tough time remembering melodies while I play guitar to figure out the chords (actually, I have a musical "blip" in my brain that makes it tough to really figure things out by ear -- poor melodic memory or something like that). Once I figure out how to use songsmith effectively, it will really help me get to those chords.
Thanks again,
Kevin

This is yet another example of the talent displayed on these forums. A song like this always inspires me to do better at my writing, arranging, playing, and mixing.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

Great. Sweet sound. Very authentic sounding. I think you've just changed my mind about Real Band, Real Drums, Real Tracks etc.
I've just got broadband so am enjoying listening immediately to the songs you guys put up. Now, am I brave enough to try the same?

Kevin,
This is my fav of your songs so far. That "oh yeah" has been stuck in my head all day - thanks alot. Kidding aside, I really like it.
Everyone hears different - I would back off the volume on the harmony and also on the drums just a hair or bring the vox up a wee bit - but jmho.
"Oh yeahhhh...."

Axegrinder01: And BIAB makes it pretty easy! I haven't even gotten into pushes, style changes, tempo changes. I am only doing the easiest stuff. It is going to take years for me to really get to what BIAB can actually deliver (and PG will keep improving it).
Shackman: Give it a try. I just did a another tune for Songfight where I just used the _STZ_120 style's demo pretty much as is for my base backing track. OK, I had to fix it (the 2nd guitar wouldn't play), I changed the section markers, added sax -- but it really is mostly the demo. It is a "throw-away" tune, so I didn't mind not spending a lot of time of the music composition. Try stuff like that!
Sundance: One guy over at songfight hated my "Oh Yeas" (LOL!). I agree that the drums stick out a little bit -- and it got worse going from the WAV to the 128kbs MP3 file. Thanks for the comments
edbulmer: Thanks for listening.
Thanks to all who came by, listened and commented!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
