should we have an area on the forum that is not pg music related where we can just visit and share our thoughts and/or cultivate international friendships?

Poll wouldn't make a bit of difference one way of the other, PGMusic is in charge here.
They call the shots.

I think he means an area for general, not necessarily music-related discussion amongst the folks who frequent the forum. Off-topic is supposed to be for "music-related" discussion, but not necessarily about PGMusic products. But still music-related.
The general forum would be a place where you could talk politics, religion, weather, etc. Although I fear (based on previous off-topic off-topic posts), that it could also be a quick way to lose an internet friend.
The general forum, however, would limit the community to those who participate on the forum here, which going to someone else's forum would not do.
I hope I got that right.

What Robh said. We have that here, now. If you want to discuss politics, religion, weather, etc., perhaps you could put the keyword first in the subject line -- for example, "POLITICS: Glenn Beck -- Threat or Menace?" That way, if people don't want to drop in on that thread, they can ignore it.

I think the real problem is that what starts as a music discussion ends up going off on a tangent.

But there are a few posters who LIVE for the chance to tell somebody his post is off-topic. That would spoil their fun, maybe even ruin their lives.

I think PG Music could set up a 'live' area with different 'rooms' in it for Live Online chats. I have suggested this before

I think the poll should have been a Yes/No choice based on how the poll question was phrased. I voted "No" or "Disagree". Off-topic conversations can go badly. If you want to discuss politics, religion or other hot button non-music topics, there are always Yahoo message boards. No one's mind is ever changed in these controversial topic areas -- just feeling get hurt.

I think the "Off Topic" forum should be opened up to include non-musical topics. If you start reading the thread and you aren't interested, then don't read the the thread anymore.
It's pretty simple.
It's a lot more interesting to discuss things with people you have something in common with than it is to talk to a bunch of strangers, (and in some cases, freaks!).

Having an area like that wouldn't make one bit of difference to those who feel they have to drop in their 'everything else' related viewpoints into nearly every discussion thread they enter. The only way it would make a difference is if the moderators of this forum had the time to look at every post and decide whether or not to move the topic/thread to the 'everything else' thread. This forum is a privilege provided by PG Music. It is not a democracy. As someone pointed out earlier - plenty of other places on the internet to share your viewpoints. Doesn't have to happen here.
There are forum rules that PG has established. It's up to PG to enforce them. See that button up on top of the screen that says 'Forum Rules'? Click it and read.

Most of us do our best to follow the rules of this forum that we have been given free access to. The mods, as far as I know aren't too upset about things, so far.
I might point out that if we had given absolute strict adherence to the rules, we would not have been able to follow up with Howard during and after his passing or to request prayer for Trax's daughter.
Do we really want to get that tight?
My 2 cents,
Don S.

Scott,
As I understand it, there’s another button that you can click that says “ignore user”. I’ve never used it but I have read on the forum that something like this exists.
You might try that. Then you wouldn’t feel the need to twist things people say into something other than what they actually said.
Problem solved. I simply ignore posts that I don’t like or that I’m not interested in. It seems that most other users do the same.

Well, we've all heard the worn out cliche', "If it ain't broke......" I think PG Music has been very fair and helpful to everyone. We have joked around on here and put some different videos, etc. on this forum section. I like having a little humor and it's nice to show some compassion to others on here also. I personally haven't seen any "flaming" or "cutting" and I'm very thankful for that. I've been on some other forums where that kind of thing is common. As soon as I see it, I'm done with that particular forum. To be honest, I consider it a privilege to be able hang out and learn here from some really kind and knowledgeable folks.
I used to hang out a lot on the TrumpetHerald Forum (some great folks on there, too). They had both politics and religion sections. I kept away from them and the moderators finally shut them down due to abuse by the members. Does history repeat itself? Seems like it to me. I'm not even that savvy about much on the internet, but there are probably tens of thousands of places where folks can discuss whatever subjects they like. They can even respond to news articles on forums where the have discussion groups for each and every article.
I don't know about you guys, but people send me tons of stuff via email. I don't take time to read it all because then I wouldn't have time to do anything else. I'm all for keeping to music-related subjects--serious, humorous, or otherwise. I really enjoy music and this forum is a great place to share and learn. FWIW

If we follow strcit adherence to the rules, we also wouldn't have been able to follow up on Mac when he was ill a while back. And I'm sure there are numerous other examples if we all think about it.
And in case anyone hasn't thought of it, we wouldn't even be able to have this discussion.
As long as we stay away from politics and religion, and treat each other with respect, I don't think there will be a problem.

I voted to disagree. Give an inch and someone WILL take a lighyear. There HAVE been flame wars here, and worse. The offending threads were usually terminated when the mods got back from the weekend/holiday, and with excellent reason. (I'm not just talking about the occasional heated discussion--usually political, sometimes musical--to which I have been a willing and active party. I won't engage publicly on religious issues.)
What would possibly stop someone from cultivating relationships the way it is now? There is Private Messaging, and those who choose to do so provide outside email addresses and URLs. I have met and played with a handful of local users this way, and have developed relationships with another handful across the country and around the world. I've had software emailed and even had disks mailed to me when I had system issues that couldn't be handled by a download.
This is as close to an ideal community as I can imagine. I've had thoughtful criticism when I asked for it, and (a time or two) had the ceiling cave in after using a few poorly-advised words. Those occasions were unpleasant, but I know that there were no ill feelings involved. And there is always the reason we came in the first place--knowledgeable advice about the products and processes that almost all of us use regularly.
I'm glad I'm here with or without PG Music products. Show me a better community and a reason to go there, and I will.
Richard

G'day Don, I voted "disagree" because while I think the idea is well intended, there are always people who would take advantage of such an unregulated opportunity. There are lots of people here for HT to feel sorry for; they are the ones whose opinions, in general, I value most, the ones who make this forum a worthwhile place to come.

I still want to know who declared pgmusic's forum to be a democracy where an unreliable internet forum polling tool tells the owner of it what to do and how to do it...
Did I miss the revolution?
Again?
Or was it a coup d'etat?

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
