Pat nailed it. Record a new melody and a new solo, AND give the song a different name, such as "Weeping Git-Fiddle".

Cheers,
Mike

Hey everyone...

how about whilst my guitar softly sooks...8)....LOL..

I have released two original albums...but I havent promoted them here..because I didnt feel it was the right place to do it...both of them had nothing what so ever to do with Band In A Box....

Onto my cover recordings.....

I built a new recording studio which was finished last November and whilst I was trying to learn the new room...I decided to record some covers for fun, thats what these are.

I really enjoy, just playing around in the studio...and covers are a great way to have something to play whilst you wait for the next original song to come along.

It also gives me a chance to work on my playing, singing, recording and mixing chops, and everytime you do something you learn something new.

I have been having so much fun with it, much more than I could have ever imagined...that I am actually toying with doing a complete covers album, this year, rather than write another original album..which is really quite a struggle...and usually takes 18 months to 2 years to complete...

Its a different mind set doing covers.....its not so serious...and precious...if that makes any sense?...In a way using Band In A Box, gives me the feeling of being a session player...with the freedom to come up with guitar and keyboard and vocal parts for the song, whilst playing with a bass player and drummer of a professional standard.

I have written songs based on other songs chord progressions, there wouldnt be too many songwriters who havent...8)...

I need to look into the licensing of covers...on my first album, I covered Bob Dylans Tangled Up In Blue, and got a mechanical licesnse for that, for X amount of copies of CD's to be pressed...but digital downloads I havent looked into...

I have my music (original) on ITunes, so that might be a path..

I also, thought, and I might be totally wrong here, that you could post things like this for academic reasons....as a method of teaching..but,....that could be baloney, and might also be a requirement of where the song is stored, on what server in which country etc...

In a way the internet is like the Wild West.

But, the bottom line is...I broke the T&C's for the PGMusic site, which i am sorry for, but thats completely my fault.

thanks again everyone

Cheers

Wiz

As an example of how different a song can sound, even when the chords are the same:

the song DECEMBER by Collective Soul starts with the same pattern as While My Guitar Gently Weeps, but the melody and instrumentation are so different you might not even notice that the chords are basically the same.

Listen along and in your head sing the lyrics to the Beatles song. It works.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6exsatE-DUk

The chords to the whole song aren't the same.. but I offer this as an example of how discretionary changes to a chord pattern can create a totally different feel.

I did not realize he'd redone the entire tune like that.

Wiz,

Good luck in all your ventures, both original and covers... I have great respect for your ability based on the stuff you have posted here. I suspect that what I haven't yet heard is even better. I find your work inspiring.

14. What is "Fair Use"?

Some unlicensed uses of copyrighted material may be considered "fair use" under Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act, which outlines factors to consider in determining fair uses of a copyrighted work. ( http://www.copyright.gov/title17/chapter01.pdf). Generally, this includes uses for educational purposes and for criticism or commentary (reviews in newspapers, for example.) "Fair use" does not include small quantity recordings or charity or religious organizations; nor does it exempt recordings that you are distributing without charge.

Unless you are sure that your usage falls under Section 107, you should obtain proper licenses for your recording.

That above text is what I was remembering.....

thats what I thought...for educational purposes...and criticism...

but,....that does not change the T&C requirements for this site...

cheers

Wiz

Ive used hundreds of backing tracks when performing eg Elvis,Bad Company etc and its always mentioned as "in the style of" now whether those companies have a license to do that Im not sure but if had to make a guess I believe they might have the said license Frank

Hi Frankie, if this post was addressed to me, well, thank you kindly, Sir. If not, I apologize for being presumptious (wouldn't be the first time)! LOL!

I am sorry I havent replied...I have gotten a new computer system and been getting everything up and running has been taking my time..not from problems (touch wood...8)...) but from fun...8)

Viva Le I mac...8)

anyways...to answer your question...the bass was BIAB, as far as effects go...IIRC it was the UAD-1 1176LN compressor and sonar EQ and that was it.

Reverbs are usually Impulse Responses...

Cheers

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
