*Works fairly well with BiaB, at least it did for me, I picked one up when they were first introduced, it has since gone on to ownership by one of my students.

*Can only do single note, no chords, doublestops and bends can work sometimes if not too carried away with it.

*Tracking can sometimes be "iffy" and better to lower the tempo and pick "intentionally" with this one. When I had it here I noticed that it preferred axes with heavier gauge strings, at least it tracked a lot cleaner with them.

*Does NOT work with the BiaB multichannel Guitar input which puts notes played on each of the six strings on one of six different MIDI channels. Only works in single channel mode. This might be problematic for those wishing to use this device to make tablature or use the guitar fretboard view for teaching, etc. Better to save up for a true hexaphonic MIDI pickup situation such as the Roland GK-2 if that's what you are after.

Still, for the money, it might represent the entry level MIDI guitar and does have some uses.

As I caution folks new to MIDI guitars, the very last thing you want to do with it is try to emulate -- a real guitar. And that's what just about everyone tries at first and then loses interest. Doesn't make much sense to me to use a guitar to make an emulation of -- a guitar. Just record the guitar to audio for that. Use the MIDI guitar controller for entering keyboard or horn or string patches, stuff like that, the kind of instruments that someone who plays only guitar is not likely to be able to do on a keyboard. BTW this device can turn in a killer B3 solo or a Sax solo or melody if one takes the time to practice getting used to how to play it, which is "cleanly" with well articulated picking and the like.

One trick I do with MIDI files all the time is record in realtime but slow the temp down somewhat. That not only gives me time to think more while recording, it allows for the slower tracking of a MIDI guitar setup. After the recording is done, you can change the Tempo back up to where it belongs. MIDI is neat that way.

I don't know how this device tracks -- or if it even does track at all -- with a Bass guitar.

I can only confirm everything Mac wrote.

Concerning MIDI guitar, actually in the specialized Yahoo group there is a strong curiosity about the YouRockGuitar:

http://www.yourockguitar.com/

...a hybrid between a toy and a musical instrument that, if what can be seen in their videos will be confirmed "on the road", could be the MIDI guitar for the masses.

Let's wait and see...

Thanks Mac for the great info!

Some I've heard before and some of it new.

Alfredo, yes, I've heard about the You Rock Guitar and have seen some YouTube clips of it.
I'm thinking about that also ... but it's not out yet, correct?

Also, I wish it looked (and felt) more like a real guitar.

That looks like something even i could learn to play
that and the Yak-Butt(ref Brother Dave Garner, talking about little David before going to battle with Goliath) are the last 2 instruments I've yet to try.

Well...it seems it should be a matter of some weeks/months. The first YRGs should be delivered these days, but no certain news yet.
And...you have no idea of the dozens of messages on the MIDI guitar Yahoo-group about if this IS or IS NOT a guitar!

Ciao!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
