Hi Folks.
Here is one of my latest tunes. Yes, it's a blues... There were so many strong blues oriented songs posted lately in Showcase... I decided to give it some time, so people dont think its some kind of blues rebellion happening here. When I completed the tune, I knew something was missing, and I knew a perfect man who could infuse it with the right ingredients.  I was lucky and David Bell graciously recorded his magic, giving the arrangement a true human feel.
The idea came from reading 19th c.-early 20th c. literature. Seems very little has changed in human psychology. At times I find mental support in written thoughts of people long gone.... "friends from another time". Enough me talking. All comments (especially critical ones) are always welcomed. Thank you.
Misha.

A Friend From Another Time

Lyrics:
When the day is gone
and emotions surrender to rhythm of the body,
There nowhere to run, no place left for hiding.
When all doors are shut and seems no way out,
a friend from another time clears my doubts.
A friend from a parallel time eases my mind.

Dream of the world, that's better than TV man preaching.
Dream of a phoenix that rising from ash.
Blue sky - that has no limits
Making a wish on a "fallen lash".

When the night is young, and emotions surrender to rhythm of the body,
There nowhere to run, no place for hiding.
And when nothing seems right,
time runs through fingers like sand...
A friend from another time offers his hand.

Dream of a world, that's better than TV man preaching.
Dream of a phoenix that rising from ash.
Blue ocean, sad songs of the whales,
that are heard many miles from shore.

Misha

Incredibly atmospheric, beautifully sung, composed and arranged.

Dave adding his scorching leads adds another wonderful layer to the song.

Excellent work and a great collaboration.

"Making a wish on a "fallen lash"."

"A friend from another time clears my doubts.
A friend from a parallel time eases my mind."

VERY cool lyrics Misha,
David rings the blues bell really well on this.
Your vocal performance is great. The scatting worked a treat too.

Very cool.

Cheers

Hi Misha,

This is such a creative presentation!

Not only do you present an excellent song and its arrangement, you also give us a journey in musical ambience which is really enjoyable.

Having Dave onboard to help with the guitar work was a masterstroke.

Impressive!

Oh, so good, Misha & Dave. Excellent vocal singing enticing lyrics accompanied by extraordinary musicianship. A really good mix. Man, Dave and that piano soar. I really like the feeling in the lyrics that translate into superb blues. "When all doors are shut and seems no way out,
a friend from another time clears my doubts." I know some of those guys.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Well, this is pretty dang special. That piano killed me...hanging in the weeds threatening much of the times, but coming out to bite, and bite hard. The band sounds great and is well mixed. Of course, this includes Dave who also does his fair share of hiding in the bushes and coming out to strike. Hat's off to both you and your friends for a thoughtful lyric well delivered.

Is it a blues? Hell if I know the definition. Like much of your work, I "imagine" it more for the musical stage than for the radio. That imaginary "setting" is everything when transported from in front of a computer screen. Transported, I was.

Misha & Dave,

A real scorcher of an opening! That David Bell guy (whoever he is) knows what he's doing on that guitar! (Nice piano, too!) Drums have a good space.

Cool lyrics. You always make me think.

I like the addition of vocal effects at then end...

Good mix. An excellent listening experience start to finish.

Enjoyed.

Misha and Dave,
A blues, with the theatrical feeling special to Rustyspoon; I like the way you sang this, playing with the form and giving us that cool scat ending.
Dave`s fill left me breathless- any more and they might have taken over the song, as is they are sweetly timed and as blistering as always.
Excellent collaboration!

Misha:

That’s one hot solo to start things off and I love the piano playing underneath it—magnetic intro. One of your best vocals, for me at least—really fits the tune, lots of emotion attached to it—well done there. Great production work all around. Very cool!

Best regards to you (and David),

Deej

David is one hell of a guitarist! I love his phrasing and tone! Your vocal fits it perfectly, loved that scat and the effects you used. The mix is spot on. This is blues at its best.

Marty,
Thank you for giving this time and your feedback! "I know some of those guys." smile

Eric,

Tangmo, you done it. Now it is printed in my head. "Dave who also does his fair share of hiding in the bushes and coming out to strike." Dave, please forgive me, but it is funny. Tangmo, arrangement was pretty busy before Dave joined, I was actually very happy he found good times to play in, so whole thing do not sound overhelmigly busy. Thank you for your kind comments!
---
FJ,
Thank you for tunning in and your kind words! That David Bell guy (whoever he is) smile
P.S. Dave, why are they stalking you?
----
Robert, thank you for kind words. The scatting part, I still not sure if it was an impulse or just got lazy writting lyrics. Dave done good on it, no doubts. As soon as I mixed his guitar in, I knew it was done.
----
Derochette,
Thank you for kind words!

Vic, thank you for listening and your support!

Dark story with dreamy elements, mesmerizing world in the spirit of C.G.Jung.
You have also an excellent friend from the current time: David's guitar playing is simply amazing. The collaboration really pays off. Blues with some interesting turns - starting with more traditional chording and then in the middle going to the past and future at the same time, David's soloing highlights it giving me shivers. Also fine details in the arrangement and mix. Nice vocals with well working glides.

I had to grab my fire extinguisher because Dave's guitar was so hot.

Again, a fantastic set of lyrics.

Your melody, performance, and production gave the song an enigmatic and enchanting sound.

The only problem with having two stellar instruments on an intro is I have to choose which one to listen two. Sort of like two kids fighting for attention, each trying to out-do the other. wink

I had to made a decision early on: should I try to figure out what you're singing - which, from what I could make out, sounded really intriguing - or just close my eyes and listen to those sweet blues?

Listening won out, of course. laugh

Interesting lyrics. I'd never heard of the superstition of wishing on a fallen eyelash. One more bit of worthless trivia!

Good work!

Nicely done. Very well written with some real gem lines including the title. Your vocals express the sentiments of the song perfectly. The lead guitar work is outstanding and sends a shiver down my back. The band was good too, especially that piano player.

Fantastic collaboration, gentlemen. Love the lyrics and the concept - I have quite a few friends from another time who always offer comfort when needed. Your vocal is excellent, Misha, very soulful, piano sounds great and Dave's guitar is just smoking. Really well done.

Great write. The new sub-genre ... "Dreamy Blues!"

The RT piano and Dave working together are a fine demonstration of the power of BiaB and a collaborator track. Really well mixed.

Your vocal is excellent and the scatting is a nice touch.

Oh, and that collaborator you found really plays some nice SOARING guitar. Did you say you found him on fiverr? smile

Most enjoyable!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
