Howdy all....

Just finished a new one and had the opportunity to employ Ken (klasaine) again to make the song come to life.
Stranger In A Strange Land:
Song about change...."Aging eyes find it hard to embrace it".
I'm really out of my comfort zone on this one.
Sort of a smooth jazz vibe requiring an almost micro-crooning vocal....which is not my strong point. smile (which I'm still trying to figure out)
I have to work with what I have.

"_ELPJZHS.STY Horn Sec.Funk 2Part wband[110RS]
This 2-piece Horn section RealTrack features the Tenor and Alto Sax playing in perfect harmony together. Other RealTracks in this style include El.Guitar Pop16th, ElPiano, El.Bass and RealDrums."
I used bass/drums/sax from the 'funk' styles.

Lone Wolf:: I posted the BIAB style in my original post for this one a couple weeks ago.
Re-mix and totally re-done harmonies.

I thank Ken for his impeccable axe work and collaborative creativity.
He's a pleasure to work with.

First two songs on the *Soundclick* link below.
Or, here: https://soundcloud.com/chulaivet1966

Thanks to any/all to take the time to give it a spin and hope you found them worthy of your time.

Have a great weekend....

Stranger in a Strange Land has a nice poppy sound. I'm a big fan of major 7th chords, so you hooked me in right away.

Nice write about how the world changes and leaves us strangers in our own land.

Good vocal. Guitar solo works really nicely, and the bass and horns keep things moving along. smile

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Well howdy David....
Ha...yeah, I've crossed the threshold to 74 recently and accepting changes is what we must do at some point.

I love the sweet sounding Maj7 chords too.
So much so that it would easy to overuse them. smile
As most of us know....after creating the track volume envelope it takes some time to decide where to pull out the sax stabs that may conflict with vocals or lead axe lines.

Many thanks for stopping by and the favorable comments.
This song writing stuff sure isn't easy.

Much appreciated....and have a great day.

Howdy Dan....

"Chicago"....that's a generous association you make there. smile

I recall buying their first album (Chicago Transit Authority) while stationed at Moffett Field in '69.
I still love their work.

Many thanks for giving it a listen and posting the kind comment.

Hope all is well....

Love the bounce from the bass. That rhythm guitarist is really having a blast, too. Great song. excellent vocal and arrangement.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Well howdy Babu....

Ha...me too.
BIAB has very punchy bass lines.

I'm playing rhythm guitar on my tele (panned left) and Ken is doing the more intricate rhythm (panned right).
A sincere thanks for taking the time to listen and generous comments.

Hope all is well and have a great day everyone....

Hi Chulaivet,

I love, love, love this style. The pop-meets-funk-meets-jazz feel is awesome smile

I also love the premise of these lyrics. As grandfather, the metaphor of age making us strangers in a strange land resonates so well with me. I was at lunch with some friends yesterday and we spent most of the time chatting about what used to be. Now after listening to this, I know why!!!!

Thanks for sharing this. I enjoyed it from start to finish.

All the best,
Noel

Wayne,
You are on roll. That "out of comfort" thing worked out great! Nothing to say except good things about it. Vocals spot on. Guitars are stunning! Mix is excellent. Good one!

P.S. Remixed Lone Wolf sounds much better!

Thank you for sharing.

G'day N96....

I like the style too.
But...as Ken (lead guitarist) puts it I'm more of a 'four on the floor rock kind of guy'.
Hence, I struggled with my confidence with the vox with this style.
I had a third verse but the more I worked with it I decided the subject was expressed well enough with just 2 verses.
Ha...I hear you....I just turned 74 (and above dirt again this morning, I might add!) and had this subject on my mental plate for a couple weeks before I dived in to flesh it out.

Hey Misha....

Ha....yeah...it's scary this 'on a roll' thing.
Two songs completed in 5 weeks (conception to final mix) is unheard of in my song writing mind.
Yes...I'm happier with Lone Wolf now too and I appreciate you checking it out again.

Thanks to you both for checking it out and the generous favorable comments....they mean a lot to me.
Maybe I can get off my creative duff again and get started on a new subject...."Wild Ways".
You gents are very kind.

Have a great weekend weed hoppers....supposed to be 85 and rain here!.

The horns really pop in this production. Excellent arrangements, and musically comprehensively good.

All the fills are perfectly placed.

Yes, Excellent.

G'day VideoTrack....

I love the sax tracks in BIAB.
So much so that it would be easy to use them more that I actually should. smile

Yes....it took some scrutiny to place them at proper places and not be to busy, clutter or step on other mixing preferences.

I thank you for giving a listen and the very kind comments.

Have a great day....

This song is really a great showcase for what BIAB can do. Then you add the vox and lead guitar and you've really got a tune that pays off. Nice work!

Well howdy TuneMonger....

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track

Review - Band-in-a-Box® 2023 for Windows is Overflowing with Features!

Dennis posted his very thorough Band-in-a-Box® review recently, where he dives into some of the new features added with version 2023: Sound-Guy's Band-in-a-Box Review

Read his thoughts on the Download & Install Manager, partial track regeneration, Playable RealTracks, Audio Editing, the addition of SynthMaster, the VST DAW Plugin, and more!

"Band-in-a-Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is, without negative connotation, a monster of a program. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. No DAW can do some of the things BIAB does, while BIAB can do a lot that DAWs do."
