Hi all! Once again, it has been a while since I have had any time to write and post any new material. (And listen to yours!)

I have so much to be thankful for! A little over a year ago, we were told Rachel (my wife) had less than a week or two to live (diagnosed with critical MDS/AML.) We were able to get her immediately into MD Anderson, where she received brutal chemotherapy treatment (3x per day) for 28 days in isolation. They got her into remission, so she could get a stem cell transplant. Then we were off to Mayo in Phoenix, where she received the transplant in March last year. Hard to believe it will be a year this month! She is doing pretty well (still battling some chronic GVHD, but keeping it under control.) We go next week back to Phoenix for her 1 year follow up. I was spending some time worshiping and thanking God for His amazing goodness a couple weeks ago, and I wrote this song, based on Ephesians 3. All Realtracks, plus I played some organ.

Open My Eyes - Video

I hope you enjoy it! (And I really hope to be able to get back to a little more of "normal" soon, so I can keep in touch with you guys better!

Open My Eyes
©Stephen W. Young

I come to You on bended knee.
You've always been, You'll always be
I can't help believing You
When I see your faith in me

I lift my hands to worship You
In this holy rendezvous
Overwhelmed by Your love for me
The Holy Ghost who lives in me revealing You

So open my eyes that I may see Your glory
Open my eyes that I may see the greatest love of all
Open my eyes that I may be filled with the fullness of my God
Open my eyes that I may see a glimpse of You

Steve,

My goodness, you and your wife have certainly had a challenging year! I am so thankful to hear your good news and rejoice in hearing of your answered prayers! Steve you certainly get a pass for only dropping in occasionally with all you two have been through! I have always considered you to be one of the top talents to grace this forum! This is a touching song that comes across as something written and performed from the heart!

Thanks, Torrey

Steve...what a beautiful prayer set to music...I've heard it said that "he who sings prays twice" I've tried to figure that out on several occasions but this song is a testimony of what that truly means...all I can say about the song is "Praise the Lord" and my prayer is that this prayer that you have set to music will be fulfilled for you and Rachel...fantastic song! May the peace of the Master rest with both of you.

Steve, first and foremost I'm glad that you wife is doing better. Tell her both her and you are in my prayers.

Excellent vocal with an outstanding message.

Super mix

loved it

PS - don't worry about being here a lot. Taking care of Rachel is a lot more important that posting and/or listening to songs.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Hi, Steve.

Good to have you back, and I'm glad to hear your wife is making a recovery. laugh

And although St. Augustine apparently never actually said "Qui bene cantat bis orat" ("He who sings well, prays twice."), I think it can be safely said that you've done exactly that here.

Lovely vocals, good write and arrangement.

Best of luck next week!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

What a great story, Steve. You present it here with such warm and tender feelings. I like what Dan & David said and it's so appropriate here. "Qui bene cantat bis orat" ("He who sings well, prays twice."

Beautiful!!

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Steve,

Some days ago I was thinking of you and your absence here on the forum.
I'm still impressed by that song "the Dream". Although you made a lot more beautiful songs, this song felt really intense for me.
And now I see you are back in the forum! With a very sensitive song with a very understandable cause
What a terrible story you and your wife have experienced! But luckily she is there with you and also you with us...

Deeply touching personal story and the lyrical message gives a loving light to it.
I really enjoyed the chord progression, it has some gospel and some famous pop feel.
The almost minimalist arrangement works excellently, especially the cello. Great mix and on top of that there is your fragile vocal delivery. All the best to you and your wife.

Firstly it's great to see such a fine musician and friend back on the forum!

This is beautiful Steve, both the lyric and the performances.

When I (Janice) was in church choir in my youth there was a song that gave me the same kind of feeling that this one does and it was called "There's a sweet, sweet spirit in this place."

The production, no surprise, is outstanding and that cello worked wonderfully with your vocal.

We look forward to more Steve Young goodness on the forum.

Hugs to Rachel!

Thank you to all of you who have listened to this, and posted such kind words! They are so appreciated!

We have been out of town for the past week (to Phoenix for Rachel's annual follow up after stem cell transplant) We had a good trip. Most of her numbers were pretty good. But her liver enzymes counts were very elevated. Could be an indication of another bout of GVHD in her liver. We will be following up with her transplant doctor in San Antonio. Also she has been battling serious lower back pain for almost 6 weeks now. So we are trying to get to the cause of that as well. She has had numerous tests and no real answer yet. Thanks again for all your prayers and kind words. They mean so much to us!

Now, get back to writing, arranging, and posting some more great music on this forum!

Steve

Hello Steve,

Very beautiful melody and gentle vocals.
The usage of the chords and the bass lines are very novel.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
