Introversion

This song is bit different than my usual fair: Somewhat of experimentation for me. The song is about being an introvert in a society that has extrovert expectations. Those who tilt more toward the introvert side will understand.

Band

Intro/Verse
NI Lores
NI Hypha
NI Electric Mint
Ujam Vogue Virtual Piano
RT3731 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm GrungeChugSyncArp

Chorus

NI Striings
Ujam Vogue Virtual Piano
Drums On Demand
RT629 Guitar, Electric, Rhythm PopAmericanDirty
RT3459 Bass, Electric, AmericanaPop

Lyrics

There’s nothing wrong with me
Need no sharing and no fixing
Give me time to think
Time to look and time to listen

Stop the noise, the cacophony pours
I’ve had enough for today
Please let me slip out the door
Sometimes I need to fade away

Can’t be want I’m not to be
I’m not humble; I’m not proud
Cyclone scarred placidity
I’m in my mind; I’m out of the crowd

Stop the noise, the cacophony pours
I’ve had enough for today
Please let me slip out the door
Sometimes I need to fade away

Scott,

This is great. Excellent lyrics and a wonderful vocal. Very reminiscent of Harry Chapin.

I love the production and tracks - just an awesome song all around!

You're singing is with power and conviction

It sounded almost like something that I would hear in a play or a Rock opera

Good use of backing tracks, mix and production is real good too

This is great man.
A strong write, great band and superb vocals.
Reminded me a bit of David Bowie.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

This has all the hallmarks of a classic showtune.
Opening song in the theatre production I'm In the Out Crowd.
Rich, well pitch voice with lyric & melody paced for clarity and understanding.

Nice one.

Cheers

Yes, I can understand the message, "please let me slip out the door/Sometimes I need to fade away" I know the feeling. Very interesting arrangement and together with exciting chord progression, create a dark musical feel, rock opera like Tommy. Excellent vocals, very powerful and even operatic in places. Very successful experimentation.

I really enjoyed your song. The chord changes were very powerful and melodic. I though you sounded a bit like David Bowie in some sections of your song and I mean that as a compliment. The last verse really builds up and the song ends strongly. Well done!

Ezekiel,

As one of the aforementioned introverts, the song totally resonates. Love the introduction and terrific use of the strings. But your vocal just slays on this one . . . really compelling, full of angst. I’m not sure what that flute like sounding instrument is . . . but nice production touch there. Love how the drums and heavy guitar come in on that chorus. The arrangement overall is impressive . . . e.g., how that chorus then reverts back into the verse . . . good stuff. This is definitely on of my favorites from you—just excellent!!

Hope all is well in your world,

Deej

Scott, this is an outstanding show tune!

Outstanding vocal, lyrics, instrumentation, and mix.

Loved that flute at the end!

IMHO your best to date.

Bob, Elliott, Bass Thumper, Ray, Peter, Janne, Dermot, Deej, Mario, and Andi:

Thanks for listening. I didn't know what genre the song was, but when some of you said "show tune," I realized, "Yeah, that's it." I guess performing in musicals back in the day has had some influence on me.

Deej,

The flute is from Native Instruments Lores (via keyboard).

Yep.... That backing track is absolutely gorgeous and luscious. Love those NI synths.

I'm with Ray. This is a good show tune. I can see the misunderstood male character on stage singing this.

Bravo!

“The cacophony pours” … indeed.

This is very different but also very engaging and the dynamics are awesome.

It sounds very theatrical/cinematic and your vocal is very powerful.

Excellent lyric and band also.
And a fine mix.

Excellent all the way around!

Yeah this is awesome Scott.

Reminds me of King Crimson, a little.

But totally you, and a wonderful sound. It may well be my favorite from you.

Superb brother.

The hypnotic opening is very promising, and when your vocal comes in the promise is fulfilled. Hey, I'd say this experiment was a fruitful success, Scott. Very cool lyrics and the melody with a lot of space is very engaging, like when someone speaks and we all strain to listen to the rest of the sentence. Well worth the strain. Really creative work, Scott.

Enjoy whatever happens!

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks

MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:

There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:

1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
