Mission Out Of ControlUsing the Synthmaster KV-331 added to BIAB 2023 for the first time. Had a lot of fun exploring it!I haven't yet seen anything posted utilizing any of the SynthMaster plug-ins, so I thought I'd take a look/listen. I found it pretty interesting. So, I played around with it for about an hour and a half and came up with this outer-space soundscape. I used four of SynthMaster's plug-ins and two of BIAB's synths. There are approximately 1700 sound voices to choose from. I didn't spend a lot of time making tedious adjustments and the like. I just auditioned a couple dozen of them and selected four or five of them that I liked and thought fit together. I did a basic mix on them - nothing else. This is where I ended up. Just a quick note: Everything you hear is indigenous to BIAB and the included SynthMaster - no third party plug-ins of any kind. I never once left BIAB during the creation and production of this piece.Hope you might enjoy the fruit of my 90-minute romp through SynthMaster. All comments appreciated. COOL one Alan. The addition of the cello gave it an extra bit of edge. I'm impressed.

But it was just a very quick throw-together that I didn't spend much time "polishing" - a very basic effort. I might work on it some more - maybe have the opening build with layers rather than start so abruptly in "full-force". And I might put a short, less busy section in the middle. Just a few thoughts for later contemplation and evaluation. I'll take "COOL" and "impressed"! I appreciate that. Thanks again. Alan

Alan,
This excellent...
Such a full and atmospheric sound. This basic mix is great - I can hear the space and distinction between the synths.
I love the feel of this piece. I could hear David Bowie singing over this one.
I really enjoyed this.

Bob Hi Bob ... Thanks for the vote of confidence! This really is a quick throw-together. As I told Ray, I might revisit it sometime in the future - probably near future. I never even considered that someone might put a vocal on this. But if so, Bowie's the guy! I didn't care much for his early stuff, but liked quite a bit of his later efforts. Again, many thanks for the kind words! Take care ... Alan

I've not seen the movie - I'm not much of a movie person. Since 1988 I've been to a theater exactly twice. But, I'll go check that one out real soon. Again, thanks so much. Glad you liked it. Alan

Ground control to Major Alan "what out for ETs!"
Excellent work Alan.
Synthmaster is a fantastic tool. I have the full version and have used it in a number of my posts, but never within BiaB. I use Synthmaster in my DAW along side BiaB tracks.
Very creative work. Two thumbs up.

fj Thanks Floyd. There's a lot of good stuff in Synthmaster, but I think a large part of is geared to EDM, Ambient, and experimental. But i have found a couple dozen sounds that should work good in country, pop, and jazz. Glad you enjoyed my mish-mash! Alan

Very creative work. Two thumbs up. Hey Mario! I'm delighted you enjoyed my little throw-together. There's hardly any spit and polish on it. In a few weeks, I'm gonna give a heavy treatment and see where it ends up. If it's decent, I'll post it. if not, well, I have a folder for lost causes that might deserve another chance. I have the free version that comes with BIAB 2023. I'm wondering if all the upgrades they're offering will enhance the free version in BIAB. If so, I'm ready to spend a little cash. Anyway, thanks a bunch, my friend! Alan

Everything you did with this is WAY above our production pay grade. But that doesn't keep us from appreciating the creativity that it took.
Very, very cinematic. Seems like it would be a good candidate for the sync libraries.
Enjoyed it!

I didn't even know these options were available! Thank you for such a concise description of what you did and including exactly what you used. Basically, you saved anyone who'd like to add synth into their productions several hours of time. Well done!

Man this is great. I would love to do a David Bowie spoof over top of this. Also I am glad you turned me on to this synth. It is outrageous. I might do a Bill top 10 spoof just holding down a C note on one preset and bustin' a rhyme to some phat and dope beats.

Cool synths!
It reminded me a bit of the old Korg Wavestation, with the "Ski Jump" and "Fire Dance" patches.
Fun times.

Hi Alan,
You amazed me! Never thought you doing experimental songs on a synth... I was reminded of those movies where the earth is in danger and while that was happening some crazy professor was playing the organ (in case the synth). His long gray hair fluttered around him, etcetera. But in this case the sound of that synth was much more coherent than in that picture above. You shaped an intriguing melody. Very nice, Alan and also very good to do something different.
I like that!
Hans

Basically, you saved anyone who'd like to add synth into their productions several hours of time. Well done! Hey Dewey ... You're welcome. Although the Synthmaster is predominantly geared toward EDM, experimental, and ambient compositions, it also has some effects that work good with more traditional genres. Glad you enjoyed the composition! take care ... Alan

Hey Guys! This is, truly, a very quick throw-together with a bare minimum of mixing and "contouring". So, I think there actually might be a level/step in your pay grade this would fit in. You could mix a bag of marbles thrown into an electric fan (don't do that!) and mix it to sound almost as sweet as Janice's voice. Songtrdr is the only place I've listed our songs for availability to music directors and the like. I don't really know how to determine which ones are legit and which aren't. Glad you appreciated the effort, as minimal as it was! You folks take care! Alan

And yeah ... that Synthmasterf has some nice goodies in it! Take care. best to you and yours ... Alan

User Tip: How to add drum fills without changing any other tracks
MarioD has shared some great advice when it comes to adding drum fills without changing any other tracks in your song:
There have been a number of questions asking how to add drum fills without changing any other tracks in a song. This is especially important if one is holding a chord for a few measures and wants to add a drum fill prior to the next chord. The following is how to accomplish that:
1-get the instruments/tracks to play like you want but don't worry about the drums for now.
2-generate the song.
3-freeze all tracks
4-unfreeze the drum track
5-add your fills where you want them
6-generated the song again - note this will only generate the drum track and not the frozen tracks
7- when you get the drums like you want them freeze the track
