What a Fool I Was (To Believe in You)

Here's an old-style blues tune written by my songwriting partner and I. He sang the lead and I added the back vocals. Hope somebody likes it.

It uses _SPOP128.STY 12/8 Soul Pop

“What a Fool I Was (To Believe in You)”

Words & Music by Billy Field & Tom Price

I must have been desperate, I must have been blind
I must have been crazy to think you would be mine
But oh, oh, what a fool I was to believe in you

I should have known better, everybody else knew
‘Cause I was not the only one to be fooled by you
Oh, oh, what a fool I was to believe in you

Everybody said “fool”
But my eyes couldn’t see
Now I know why their laughing
Because the fool was me

It must have been written all over my face
That I was just a plaything easy to replace
But oh, oh, what a fool I was to believe in you

Everybody cried “fool”
But my eyes couldn’t see
Now I know why their laughing
Because the fool was me

I must have been desperate, I must have been blind
I must have been crazy to think you would be mine
But oh, oh, what a fool I was to believe in you
Oh, oh, what a fool I was to believe in you

Billy Field and Tom Price, you really captured that 50's blues vibe in this one!

Outstanding vocal and harmonies.
Great choice in the backing tracks.
Outstanding mix.

You know I love the blues and 50's music so you know that I loved this one.

Billy and Tom...if I heard this on a Sirius XM '50s station I would seriously believe it belonged there and I would be wondering why I didn't remember it from back then...the vocal is killer both the lead and BGV's...this is so cool!!

Thanks Firesong, coming from you that is encouraging. Someone complained that I should not be posting songs unless I listen and comment on others, but since I am infrequently on this site (don't use BIAB that much) I just listened (while walking) to eight of your tracks! They are great - fine songwriting, production and vocals. I just sent you a private message (via email) with a comment.

Like you, I have dozens of unfinished/unreleased/unrecorded songs and half-written fragments, so I am eager to learn to better use BIAB to bring them all back before I die...

An excellent write, Tom & Billy. I really enjoy playing along with this. Sensational vocal Billy and I really like the way you guys added those harmonies. You guys have recreated my favorite radio station from the 50s, and even rised the bar on quality. Really well done.

Enjoy whatever happens!

What a wonderful whiff of nostalgia.

I'm glad you caught the Jordanaires tribute, because that is exactly what I was going for. I had no intention of doing it until I heard the down-home blues style of BIAB, which cried out for something like that, so the program can sometimes inspire you to do something you didn't think of.

Hi Tom,
A lovely song that brings you back to the old times of Blues!
Those understated background vocals really achieved this.
While the lead singer was singing heartbreakingly, you sang along emotionlessly in the background. Great!
I completely agree with Vic about the Little Richard comparison!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
