Hi All, I've just recently bought a new Dell Win7 laptop. I used to use Asio4All quite happily with my old Dell XP laptop, not so with win 7. I can't assign audio output , I keep getting an error message. I uninstalled it, so not quite sure what the message is, but I can reinstall if needs be.
All is not lost as I do have an old Audiophile USB Soundcard which appears to work, just be handy if I could get Asio4All up & running.
thank you best wishes Rikki

Hi, may be it's not the problem of win 7 and asio4all but the combination with the onboard sound chip. I used win7 with asio4all on my Compaq-Desktop - sometimes everything was fine, somtimes no sound: The driver locked the output, so that asio4all could not adress it. Activating an old usb-card was my solution, too. best wishes Wolfgang

Thanks Wolfgang, I was hoping it might be something to do with some wrong settings, if not, I suppose I'll have to use the external card.
best wishes Rikki

Did you download the Win 7 version released in June, or were you trying the older version?
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

And also, there's possibly UAC and the Administrator Dance to contend with as well, perhaps.

G'day Rikki, quite some time ago I had the same problem with an HP notebook and Vista (Win7 shares the same kernel). The problem turned out to be another process trying to share the audio device.
Make sure there are no applications trying to use the "MicroSoft GS Wavetable Synth" as a MIDI output device as Vista/Win7 assigns the audio to it immediately. This was my problem. In my case I was experimenting with "VSTHost" which had activated the M$ synth.
IIRC it was necessary to disable UAC in order to install correctly too.
--=-- My credo: If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing - just ask my missus, she'll tell ya --=--You're only paranoid if you're wrong!

Hi Rikki, Do you have the GS Wavetable or MIDI Mapper selected as your MIDI Output Driver? Sometimes ASIO4ALL and the Wavetable conflict, which stops ASIO4ALL from working properly. This is usually fixed by selecting a different MIDI Output Driver. If you don't have any other options, the (free) Loopbe1 driver usually does the trick. You can get it from http://nerds.de/en/download.htmlJust make sure you're using a DXi synth, or MIDI output will be silent. Kent PG Music

Thanks Mac & Rharv, I'm fairly certain my win7 is the latest. Laptop is only 2 weeks old, & it's the newest model.

Thanks Lawrie, that sounds something along the lines of the error message I received, something about sharing, I might dig a bit further. Thank you.
( I'm in NSW also, Port Stephens area. Small world )

Yes, rikki, I saw your celebratory post over at Synth Xone the other day.
You've got a really fast processor there.
I think that any time we switch to another computer, new or old, fast or slower, there are often setup issues like you are encountering now.
Stick with it, don't let frustration get to you, with any new piece of hardware the first step is to "shake it down" and iron out the bugs.
*Have you gone to the website of the new lappy's mfr and taken a look to see if there are any UPGRADES or patches posted for your model?
*Check for BIOS update as well.

I meant the version of ASIO4All released in June (with Win7 updates), not the laptop OS.

Hi Mac, yeh, I do get around haahaa. I was just so happy with my new toy. My husband was so incredibly generous. My quad core i7 , certainly is a lot faster than my netbook.
I must admit I'm having a number of hassles, but I don't give up easily. haahaa A couple of my old music programs definately won't work in Win7, so I'll just leave them in my old xp laptops & hope that the laptops last for a while longer.
Really looking forward to running the BIAB audio stuff like the real drums & the audio tracks. With my old one, I ended up just using midi, it was too slow.
I will go & check for updates. thanks
best wishes rikki

Hi Kent, thank you so much for the info on loopbe1. My old Midi Yoke won't load load into Win7, so the Loopbe1 has given me an alternative, until such time as Midi Yoke gets updated to be Win7 compatible. It appears to have also fixed my problem with Asio4All.
Since Loading, I do now get this strange little boxed message pop up TBIA x the data is invalid everytime I start Win7, but I can live with that.
best wishes rikki

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
