This is a total rework of a song I posted quite some time back but wanted to do it right.i was going for a Chicago/Steely Dan sound with this
While I certainly haven't arrived there yet, the message in this song
is what I strive for daily! It's about taking the "high road".

When I first heard the Motown Funky Triplets Realdrums set a couple of
years ago I knew I had to do a song with those and here it is. BIAB has
the BEST sounding drums out there IMHO! I'm still working with eq's and
mixing but I kind of like what I hear.
The vocals in the chorus are at the top of my vocal range.
The middle 8 section is as close as you will ever hear me coming close to rap with the vocal delivery!
Thanks everyone for having a listen.

I'm leaving dark clouds far behind
I'll rise above them all this time

When some go low we will go high
The road's not crowded there
To leave the darkness for the light
And find loves new frontier

Look for the best in those you know
Where they have failed just let it go

When some go low we will go high
The road's not crowded there
To leave the darkness for the light
And find loves new frontier

Wanting to fight and criticize and magnify
Faults of others
You know that it's bringing you down
Start on the quest bring out the best
Lift the oppressed let hope manifest

Good job Torrey.
The only bug I have is the ear bashing lead guitar after the first "loves new frontier" line.

Torrey..."Loves New Frontier"...first off I love the positive nature of both the lyrics and music...should be philosophy 101 for us all...now the nuts and bolts...intro is cool...that harmonica is crazy good both the sound and the playing (a Stevie Wonder flashback!)...with your guitar and keyboard work it's a fantastic combination...you are the total production package...your harmonies and melodies are so unique and distinct from everyone else and stylistically "Torrey"...way to stretch that vox!...were you a Beatle's fan?...your pop (style) music always reminds me of the great British sound of it's era...so much for the ear to feast on...so it's a big thumbs up from your fan club (the Illinois Chapter at least)...thanks for posting this...keep'em coming! I'm glad you're not there yet, because I like neither Chicago nor Steely Dan, but I like your song smile
I think you manage the high notes quite well, and both the lyrics and the overall mood of the song convey your message well.

Good stuff!

Torrey,

Awesome Music.

Incredible Production.
(That harmonic DOES sound like Stevie dropped by to help on the session)

Mix sounds good.
A delight to listen to.

Pro.

Hey Torrey, masterful indeed. I too hear Stevie in the harmonica or maybe Brand New Day by Sting.
But it's the message and your vocals that really livened the room. You have an inspiring, happy voice that makes one want to "go high".

Keep these great songs coming man.

To leave the darkness for the light
And find loves new frontier"

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Torrey,
"When some go low we will go high
The road's not crowded there"
is sadly true.
The harmonica keyboard certainly bends time and space to Little Stevie, The Goon Show & your song.
I like the way the twin lead comes in after New frontier...level, tone and harmony work for me.
LOVELY top of your range vocals - they give that little extra wow & the Leslie effect plus the whistle there're plenty of "Easter eggs" along the way.

Cheers

Hi Torrey,

First of all, man, I'm so happy that you are on the mend and that you are still able to create your wonderful music! You are truly a treasure and we are lucky that you share your music with us here.

I hear both Steely Dan (your chord choices especially during the intro) and Chicago (melody) with this song so you accomplished your goal I think.

Great write! As already noted by Ray and B.T. :

"When some go low, we will go high
The road's not crowded there"

Nice!

Excellent vocal, and as always I love your guitar work. Harp sounds great also, amazing you did that on your keyboard.

Just a wonderful listen, I'm on my third as I type this.

Awesome in every way!

Torrey great job as all have mentioned. My only nit was that I couldn't quite make out what you were saying just before the break at about 1:40 or so, but that's probably just me. Once again the production and the message are fantastic. A great feel good song. I really like all the different sounds you pop in there and the way you worked the stereo effect on the piano at about 2:12, man I wanna learn how to do that! Terrific Torrey,

Brad

Boy the drums and bass really lock in the groove of the song. Vocals and harmonies were excellent. Guitar work was awesome as well.

Truly Awesome Torrey. Man, your range actually has a limit? This is a wonderfully enjoyable song with so much going on -=-and yet you mastered the mix. All of your lyrics are so engaging, but this couplet really stands out: "When some go low we will go high. The road's not crowded there." I'll look for ya there --maybe hitch a ride. I like what Floyd said about the harmonica --and you even managed to add a few bended notes. Very impressive. Those drums really drive the song, and I love that bass. Everything you add seems so essential and so professional.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Torrey,

You said this was a remix of an old(er) song of yours. but when I heard it, I felt sure I've heard it before. Somewhere in between 2016 to now.
Can that be? I think I remember your songs or, what looks like your songs, because I like those melodies a lot.
The way your songs are build up is very good.
And your vocals are very strong and can go hiiiiiiigh, man, so very high!
I used to sing with high vocals too when I was much younger than today, but all my songs from that time can't be sing by my again.
And you still can!!!

Great song and great sound,
Hans

Thanks Dan! I was and still am a huge BEATLES FAN! It'S hard not to be influenced by their genius use of melody and chord structure when it comes to writing pop /rock sounding music1. I admittdly tried to get into a McCartney mode when I recorded the bass part! take care, T

Torrey,

Big Sound!
It sounds great.
All instruments are great, but the harmonica and guitar are especially cool.
Vocals are still the best.
The melody feels like a new frontier for your song.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

I'm with Marty - you can now only hit the high notes, but sound effortless up there! wink

Very Steely Dan intro, but if you were going for a IGY sound, you zagged instead of zigging and went somewhere much more upbeat then Steely Dan ever did.

Peppy, upbeat, pop sunshine in a song. Throwing in various sounds (like the whistle) gave a Beatles sort of feel, but it's Torry all the way.

Excellent! laugh

Our very best wishes as you continue your recovery journey!

We agree that you nailed the Chicago/Steely Dan vibe and that Stevie Wonder sounding harmonica via keyboard is awesome.

There’s so much good stuff here with those funky drums, all of your performances and the excellent message of the lyric.

Kudos!
