Just Having Fun

Just a quick and dirty jam where I am trying to learn how to play a blues harp VSTi. I'll let you decide if I did OK or not OK.

BiaB style = Dallas 12-8 Ctry Blues Rhythm
Tempo - 65

Good Lord he is using RTs and RDs. The world must be coming to an end grin

I am playing the lead guitar and via my MIDI keyboard controller the blues harp.

My momma didn't raise a fool. And if she did it, was one of my brothers.

Yeah, I was worried that the Apocalypse was on us.

Then I remembered that BiaB has a zillion harmonica RTs, but you decided to use a MIDI harmonica. crazy

Nice, but those high notes made me nervous!

Glad you're enjoying your toys.

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

I enjoyed it!

From beginning to end... There were times when I thought the harp sounded convincing, and other times... where it just didn't. wink

I agree with David... Those high notes were affecting me in a funny way laugh... Could just be my medication! grin

Writing songs and having fun is hard to do, Mario.
What is your secret?
I thought your harmonica was quite convincing but then, blues isn’t my genre.
Go forth and have more fun.

Mario,

You did great! Love this sound. You also have great mixes - everything sounds so clean and crisp.

Nothing wrong with a good jam in my book.

Sounds good to me, Mario, I dug the harp except for the high notes, much preferred what you were doing in the lower register.

Guitar was right on the money of course! I liked the little trade off bit at the end, that was fun.

David, Greg, Vic, Bob, and Dave, thanx so much for all of your input. That was exactly what I was looking for as far as the blues harp register. So now I know that the lower register sounds OK but I messed up on the upper register. Thanx again for your input, I greatly appreciate it.

As I've said before, MIDI is somewhat of a mystery to me, which is why I'm so, so thankful for RT's.

You, on the other hand, are a MIDI Master.

I enjoyed the jam:)

I am not worthy!!! Bravo!!! Seriously. The high registers are, in my view, just as good as the rest of it - i.e. VERY good. Only thing I'd do to them is apply some effect to round the sound a little ... it's a LITTLE too piercing for my taste, right up there :-)

But, otherwise, listen: BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT, BRILLIANT. You have a talent for melody and for telling a story, in your tracks. i.e. you make top-notch MUSIC.

Absolutely loved it.

I have to agree with wanting to lower the register of the harp. And your guitar is spot on.
You really know the blues, great job.

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Down n dirty experimentation/self education jam...works for me. Those high notes were a little close to scratching glass but they were worth trying.

Cheers

Thanx for listening and commenting Scott.

FYI - MIDI is not that hard. If I can do it anyone can do it.

Yes Ray I was wanting others' opinion on the harp. I got used to hearing that "scratching glass" that it became normal here. I'm glad everyone brought that to my attention. I did learn a lot from this little quick and dirty experiment.

The more I come aware of high harmonies, from the BeeGees to the Beach Boys, on through to Flatt & Scruggs, the more I realize they are this almost unconscious influence in the culture of our music. Well done!

Mario,
Fun it is! Thumbs up on MIDI harp experiment. You are definitely on the right path, but I am with Ray on higher notes. Excellent guitar playing & clear mix. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Mario,

A good Blues jam.

Nice job on the MIDI harp.
I actually thought the high notes sounded like a typical harp guy "reachin' for the stars". They could be "warmed" a little with some EQ?

You've received a lot of great feedback so we'll just borrow Ray's comment:

"Down n dirty experimentation/self education jam...works for me"

Works for us too and we look forward to more harp!

Fun,

J&B

Mario, This is a super relaxing blues. That harp sounds pretty convincing. Good job. I enjoyed it, Tom
