Does anyone have any thoughts - maybe from experience - why the simple-as-dirt bar style-change might unknowingly get inhibited?
I have a straightforward song form of 232 bars, a 1-chorus layout so I can see everything, no hidden repeats etc, starts in _HUSHPOP.STY for a deceptively low-key beginning ahead of raising tempo and changing to a Rock style part-way through when the song gets going.
SO...
I right-click bar 58 where the change is to fall, go to Bar Settings on the pop-up, click the ".STY" button beneath "Style changes at this bar", make a selection, go okay then okay again, then regenerate to listen. No tracks are frozen.
BUT then it just carries-on playing right through in _HUSHPOP.STY after the regen-step.
I've tried it with a few different new styles, and with and without the "Send Patch Changes" box checked in case there's some correlation, but the result is always no-change and I can't see any other options that I think get in the way.
The playback speeds up as set for there also, could the tempo change be conflicting? I wouldn't think it should, but that's the only modifier that's been applied at all ... there's nothing fancy there or elsewhere.
I'm now stumped as it is a simple 3-step process in a very simple and clean song-form, can'timagine what I am missing .... any thoughts would be welcome to avoid having to create the song in sections, thanks!
Sorry that didn't work for you. You may also want to do a Return to Factory Settings (Most) and retry.
I created song using the Demo chords for _HUSHPOP.STY and that Style for the first 32 bars. At Bar 33, I replicated your steps to select a different Style - _PICK.STY a heavy metal style so there'd be no mistaking that the style had changed. It worked as expected.
I reset the Style change at bar 33 to a 3/4 Style (HEARTEN.STY) and regenerated and it also worked as expected. Increasing the Tempo did not affect the style change.
I suggest you start a quick test song with 4 bars of _HUSHPOP.STY then change the style to _PICK.STY to determine if there may be an issue with the particular BIAB project you're having trouble with.
Be sure the Settings Apply to setting is on "All Choruses" and that will match my settings. The "Send Patch Changes" box is checked on my Bar Settings page also.
I have attached a screenshot from my test and it shows the 'new' style written out between the two boxes. Your Bar Setting's should have that too.
Thank you for taking the time to replicate the process as a check.
I am glad to know that it worked as it should, which also appears to bear out my more-recent thought that the issue could probably lie with the project itself at some fundamental level, particularly as your screenshot shows precisely the same detail and particulars as my own processing has done repeatedly earlier today - so operationally all appears okay!
I will mirror your trial in a little while as a clean-sheet test (in the middle of something else right now) and if that works as it should I'll redo the project's sheet anew - it's only a matter of nominating the style and entering the chords once tempo and length are set, so no big deal to do-over ... hopefully that should take care of things and allow me to continue and finish the piece.
Again, thanks ... and I'll add a line here again afterward to confirm/advise one way or the other in case this is relevant to a future user's own problem-researchings.
Do any of the styles have RealTracks that are half-time, double-time or triple-time? Each one of those use a different number of bars so I'm wondering if you maybe encountering the 255 bar limit.
In a case where a file is not doing what it is told to do, always best to do a Return To Factory settings. If it is still not working, the quickist resolution is to upload the file so someone here can try it. If it works here, then it is your system and if not, we may see a fix for the problem or confirm a bug.
My weekend became too busy with family matters to take further steps until now, and I have not been back here since then to check/reply-further.
A couple of hours ago however I was finally able to spend time on it again.
Following advice/thoughts I have made a new short test piece, 16 bars with the first 4 being the same start-style, second-4 being a first new style, third-4 another new style, and the last 4 bars going back to the start-style.
And it all worked out entirely as supposed!
Based upon that I have now written-out again the song that was problematic at the end of last week, as a clean-sheet exercise with the same base-style, and also with the same style and tempo changes as the original. Again, it behaved perfectly.
I have also adjusted a few things and reshaped a couple of the musical phrasings, and all has continued completely fine!
It is clear that the original contained something that conflicted, however even on close investigation there seems to be nothing in its creation that I hadn't done possibly hundreds of times over the years.
Nevertheless there is absolutely nothing remiss with the short test piece nor the problem song's replacement form today, so in my case "switching it off and then on again" by building a clean new version has reset whatever was in an error state.
Of course, that doesn't help one jot with discovering where the problem actually lay, however as long as a remedy has worked I can live with that
With thanks to all for their advice and suggestions that led there, and if not already tried I hope that the same simple step will take care of it for the other enquirer that I see has been experiencing the same thing.
