Build 1010, Windows 11 BIAB. EDIT: oops, no, I'm on Windows 10 for this test
After the entire song regenerates, I hear one click of the song count-in when it would normally start to play in just a second more, but then it stops the count-in and regenerates everything again. And yes, that takes just as long the second time.
I admit I know nothing about using the Melodist, since I always write my own progressions and melody, but I thought I should check it out because it was mentioned recently in the forum.
Note: I unchecked the box to generate chords. I just wanted to hear what melody it might suggest for my chords. But waiting twice as long for regeneration is discouraging. Am I missing something?

Matt, I just ran a number of trials just like you described and none of them regenerated twice. The only difference is that I my OS is Win 10. Yes I have the 1010 update. I tried both RT and MIDI styles.
Like you I write my own stuff and rarely use the Melodist and in fact haven't used it in years now.

I'm on Windows 11. The Melodist seems to be behaving for me. I'm not getting that second regeneration. I have a different problem.
With it set up as shown in the image below, when I generate the Melody over and existing chord progression (and a Realstyle loaded), the Realstyle is replaced by a MIDI style even though the "Use Realstyles" option is supposed to override the MIDI style.

Noel, I didn't catch that the first time but the identical thing is happening here regardless of the style, MIDI or RT. I always get a MIDI melody. I am on Windows 10. Note my settings are exactly like yours.

No second generation here. However I always get a MIDI melody too and I am on Windows 11. That said, I thought this was normal in that the Melodist always produces a MIDI track. Yes it can be written to the Soloist track, yet it is still MIDI. Is there such a thing as a RealTracks non-midi Melodist? If so which RT can be used to generate such a melody?
I expected a MIDI melody to be generated, and I could select whether I wanted it on the Melody or Soloist track. As far as I know, and that's very little in this particular part of the program, BIAB will only make a MIDI melody from the Melodist (which predates the introduction of RealTracks).

As I said I haven't used the Melodist in a long time but when I see a use RealStyles option I would expect a Realtrack. I guess I am wrong about that as maybe it means use a MIDI track from a RealStyle. If it does mean that then that label should be changed.

I'm sorry. I didn't explain myself well enough. The melody is always MIDI because Realtracks cannot play melody. When I click OK on the melodist though, the whole style become MIDI-based with the "Use Realstyles" option active. If this is not active and I have a Realstyle loaded, the Realstyle stays in place.
According to the flyby note, the "Use Realstyle" option should override MIDI-styles and give me a Realstyle to back my melody. I haven't played around with the this much so that could be the issue (user inexperience in this area).
Hi, I experience the same as Noel it use to work !!!! it doesn't seem to want to use real tracks only midi. nothing to do with creating a melody but using real tracks to play along with the song it creates.

The Melodist has been buggy for a long time. The realstyles no longer automatically replaced the midistyles since 2022. A simple workaraound manually load the displayed realstyle and deactivate the allow style change function when generating the melody. The melodist can work with any real style. Also every melodist can be adapted to any style (even8-16 swing8-16 walz etc...). Unfortunately, the jukebox generation is also defective for me, which allows me to hear new melodies with every repetition. I gave up hope that pg will fix the melodist. Vsts like Melody Source 2 show how things can be done better. A Melodist from pg with the simplicity of a melody source 2 gui and paired with the melody virtuosity of pg would have something. if complete songs were then created in the appropriate genre song format, prototyping new ideas would be a lot more creative. In addition, the breaks that are needed for the calculation are terribly exhausting. I have the feeling that the process is becoming a time waster and that my desire to try things out is quickly being eroded.
The melodist has always only generated a MIDI melody as long as I can remember. However, it does appear that select RealStyle (which doesn't generate the melody, because RealStyles don't have melodies) reverts to a MIDI style. If I select "Use RealStyle", it doesn't load. If I uncheck use RealStyle, but then click on the button to select a style and find a RealStyle to use, it still doesn't load (I get the default MIDI style). The other thing is that if I click on "select style", it defaults to the current song folder, so I have to go find the \BIAB\Styles folder to select the style.
I haven't used it in a while, and not sure I ever used it with RealStyles. Actually, I generally used it to create solos which I moved from the Melody track to the Soloist track (because most of the (MIDI) soloists were just way too busy. My buddy Chris and I did use it to create a couple of nice melodies as the basis for a few of our songs (can't remember which ones anymore), which we then modified after creation. I also used to use the melodist with the jukebox feature to randomly generate songs with melodies for just background listening music while I worked, but it's been awhile.
This definitely seems broken.

Hi Matt, this could also be due to your song settings. Deactivate the natural arrangements under the song settings. Maybe that will change something for you. I get 2 yellow windows with different percentages when natural arrangements are activated. It could also be caused by the embellisher. Then "force simple arrengment" could also help. But both are very helpful.
