I'm an instrumental guitar player I have a 100+ performance quality tracks I gig with regularly. I built 98% of them in BIAB. Most of them have bass, drums, and one or more comping (chording) instrument (piano,b3,rhodes,accordion,pedalsteel,marimba etc).
I generally play single note lines over the arrangements at the gig. A common arrangement is the head, an improv chorus or two, the head,an outtro. Simple stuff.
I now want to stretch out and create some bass & drum arrangement without the comping instruments. Something that requires me to add some harmonies to my single note guitar playing. Not necessarily chord melody guitar but something more than just single note lines. Something that would work in a trio, or even a duo with just a bassist.
Naively I thought I could just use my existing performance arrangements. I would simple mute the comping instruments, mix the levels of bass and drums and bounce out a new track to shed on . Simple & easy, right ?.
Not really. Often the resulting bass & drum only arrangements are pretty terrible. Not at all what I'm after Amazing how the trio held it together. Now I'm slogging through swapping out drummers/bassists, changing styles, etc. Its a bit of a grind to be honest.
Wondering if anyone has been working on similar project and would welcome some collaboration. My goal is performance level bass & drum arrangements that can work in a guitar (or piano, etc) trio.
I use biab Mac and Logic. However the meat of the project effort is selecting the biab style & bass & drum tracks. That could happen in either Mac or Win. I use RealTracks but can certainly implement Midi if that makes sense.
Thanks in advance

I assume you are already within Logic comping (cutting/splicing) multiple generations of the BiaB tracks to get closer to what you want?

Bud, Thanks for your response
I have not yet built a comp folder in Logic for this purpose. I was hoping not have to resort to this kind of surgery. Perhaps thats what it will take. Or midi
I don't use the BIAB Logic Plugin yet. My early experiences were not so good It may be time to revisit.
At this time I'm trying to get a real performance inside biab I like. Sometimes I select a whole bunch of different bass lines (real tracks). Sometimes I generate 7 (or 6) different versions of a particular bass track.
Generally I can find a drum groove I like. The bass player to lock in with the drum groove as a 2 piece is a bit more challenging
Maybe its just me.

Locking in & filling out - hard things in or out of BIAB. Buy a bass, record your own bass parts. It'll sound like a guitarist playing bass for a while but you'll learn the eldritch arts of bass soon enough. I prefer to do my own bass parts in the main because I can but also because BIAB tends to be a little too busy on the bass for my liking. If you've a good drum groove and know what you're doing on guitar you'll know what & where to stay away from.
