I started this a little while back but it was a bit shelved it for a bit. I enjoyed playing along to & with it - a tempo & groove that suits my playing I suppose. BIAB covers DRUMS, ORGAN, PIANO & ooohs. Alison carries the melody. The other bits I'm to blame for. I did a bundle of things in this as experiments such as the grunge trick of moving from one chord to another like A5 A5/G# G5 amongst other things. Since I only had rudimentary bits of melody I asked Alison to develop it a little but that I did want to leaves some holes. This is what we have so far... ParkAttack0606 I've paid attention and employed almost all suggestions. I've not edited for length as it's only two verses and three choruses with a brief intro, solo & outro. There's is an option I will explore and post it mañana. To assist I've altered the dynamics. ParkAttack 0906 Here's a shorter version...I've swallowed enough sea water and have lopped off a chunk - will Poseidon be appeased? Will the swells say the tide has turned? We'll see: Mumma's little baby loves...

Ray,
I like this a lot. It has a heaviness tinged with a great chunky driving rhythm. Love the drums and your guitar parts as well - some excellent sounding tracks.
This is worth further development.

When it first started I really was digging the groove and the overall Rock sound
I was very surprised to hear the cellos come in. It took it to a new dimension
But I thought that was the introduction and singing would start? But the cellos kept going for 6 minutes.

Yes, I was expecting vocals in here as well, especially as your intro stated that "Alison carries the melody". After listening, I'm guessing Alison was playing the cello, correct? Very moving. My suggestion is to leave them wanting more and to cut this back to 3 minutes. Overall, though, I really enjoyed it. The surprise stops (for lack of a better term) were nice to mix it up as well.

I really liked the cello leads. That is something you don't hear every day.Alison did a fantastic job.
The mix and backing tracks are perfect.
Like Dewey I also think you should shorten this.
Tips on how to fall asleep in a living room chair:

Hi Ray - And Alison,
I like the heaviness of this - almost forboding.
Besides being a fine singer, her cello work is exceptional.
Realizing this is a work-in-progress, I'll just mention a thing or two that stood out to me:
1. I think the organ and ooohs could be louder.
2. The abrupt stops are ear-catchers - I really liked them
3. As a WIP, the length didn't bother me (listened all the way through). But in a final mix, I would suggest keeping it 4 minutes or shorter.
There are many ways you could take this, and it will be interesting to hear what the final mix sounds like. Keep at it - potential here! You and Alison are a great team. I know I certainly enjoyed working with you and her. Tale care, my frined ...

A good sound. Works together as a whole.
Drums could come up some.
Really nice Expressive cello!
I could not really distinguish identifiable sections (verse? chorus? etc?). As it is now, there is a "sameness" that gives it a one-long-piece vibe.
Not saying that is good-or-bad... just how it hit my ear...

Thanks Mario, Alison has played cello on a few of my things. RT cellos are nice but something written for a song is always going to be better and Alison playing makes it better still.

fj Thanks Floyd, I'm still enjoying the dream like meander at present. It was a sort of jammy feel when tracking which, for a change, i enjoyed. I'll probably alter the arrangement/dynamics to emphasize sections when I come back to it with my list of suggestions.

As an instrumental I agree it's a touch long.

Peter Thanks Peter, I figured that the "shock" arrival of the cello after the fuzz guitar intro could be played upon. I'd had the guitar part since before the cello so a cut n run seemed reasonable. With a verse running at around a minute and the chorus about the same editing down to a shorter "song" would be problematic though slicing after the "solo" might work.

I listened to the third iteration. I was immediately drawn into the piece. I love the dark mood. I could listen to the cello all day, so I'm sure I wouldn't have minded the longer version. I like that guitar bit that comes in at about 5:05. Just a small item, but I thought it was an effective add. I was going to ask who wrote the melody, but my question was answered when I read through your description of the track.
