I am still trying to learn to play this thing...lol

Some of the sounds it will make.

The zero fret idea makes it easy to play but makes slide guitar more difficult. I think I will build one more three-string with a standard bone nut so I can control the height. After that, I will build a four-string guitar with a tapered neck. I am building a router jig to cut a C shape. I also have found a sawmill that can provide me with the type of wood I want.

Thanks, Mario

I have it tuned to open E. At least I have some idea where the notes are at.

Hi, Herb

It turned out not too bad. The fret placement has to be dead on for the guitar to play in tune at every fret. That is not easy to do. For the next one, I will build, I will buy a rosewood fretboard pre-slotted made on a CNC machine or program my CNC mill to do that.

Yeah, I figured that the frets would be the most complicated and precision requiring aspect of a guitar build. Just a few thousands of an inch one way or the other and you have intonation issues. Multiply that by the 20 to 24 frets on a normal neck and you have a challenging task. The factory neck might be the best way to go.

I'm impressed. Looks good and sounds good. I haven't got any more than basic woodworking skills, and even the simplest projects can turn out all wrong in my hands.

Now all we need is someone who actually knows how to play a three-string guitar...lol

I think almost anyone could build one. It requires a bit of thinking the process through. These guitars can be built using only hand tools. That will require more work.

I think I will build a new tube amp next.

Send it to Keith Richards.

Did you layer in those dark pieces when you glued it up or find a tree with really neat growth rings?
