Our current showcase forum song has been getting a 100 daily plays since I made it public four days ago. As I knew this was not coming in large part from the forum, family or friends I spent some time attempting to discover the source.

Finally after a deep dive into SC's "Insights" option I discovered that our song had been placed on an official, i.e., SC curated playlist named Wildhearts. Well, that's pleasing but it's a mystery as to why they did not notify us.

Anybody else had this happen? Thanks.

Bud

Well that can mean only one thing . . . you guys are a talent powerhouse; but we already knew that.

PS> Scat! has well over a thousand listens, and as of 2 minutes ago, one more smile

For me there’s no better place in the band than to have one leg in the harmony world and the other in the percussive. Thank you Paul Tutmarc and Leo Fender.

Thank you. That’s very generous. Dunno about the powerhouse but we do have fun. Glad you listened to Scat! It took it several years to reach that number while the SC playlist has taken our current song to half that level in a few days.

FWIW an active Spotify playlist can also get a lot of plays quickly. We recently had several songs placed on some Spotify user lists. They had languished with hardly any plays for years but after the placements they have quickly
climbed to over a 1000 and we are getting over a 1000 total plays a month.

All meaning us three will soon have $20 to split up. smile smile There are thousands on artists like us forum folks who get hundreds of thousands of Spotify plays but we are just happy that people other than family and friends like what we are doing. All for fun.

With the amount of music that is being produced, it is a wonder anything gets played other than by accident.

Yesterday I turned on a TV I have in the garage. It is a Roku device. There is a ton of free stuff to watch and listen to. I just don't have the time to deal with TV in general.

There is something called Pluto TV...spelling ???... Anyway, I turned it on, and a very young band was playing. They reminded me of the Stones. They had a very good rock singer. It was not evident who they were, and I did not have the time to dig into it.

The point is that a lot of good music is being made, but how to find it is a problem. Yes, I can search for stuff by style, but that search could return thousands of songs.

Rick Beato was going on about a good song he produced, which went nowhere. "Digital Dust" is a phrase describing the millions of songs sitting on tape/hard drives that will never be listened to by anyone other than friends and family.

You and your wife produce good music of a certain style that is marketable to a segment of the market and at a price, those buyers are willing to pay. It is always unlikely that a famous artist will pick up any one song by anyone, but the more plays you have, the better the possibility. It is good to see you and Janice doing well with your music. There was a lot of effort you guys put in to get to this point.

It would be fun to write a hit song, but I don't need the money and certainly don't want to be famous.

Many people are lucky and can listen to music while they do other things. I have never been able to do that. That limits my exposure to new music.

Soundcloud remains a mystery to me. Now and then, someone will contact me to say they liked something I did. What is strange to me is when they live in Mongolia. How does that happen?
People repost my songs. The songs then go to places that I am not aware of.

I will go check out Wildhearts to see what is there.

Cheers,

Billy

First thank you very much for the nice remarks about our endeavors. Regarding the above quote we differ from your experiences. Literally every day we hear music new to us that we like and in genres of our choice. Janice and I are continually amazed at Spotify's algorithms that put together playlists for us - scores of them that are frequently updated. When I listen to Apple Music (and I'm a huge Apple fan) they simply can't come near the accuracy of Spotify. Spotify offers us a huge variety of blues and Americana playlists that are aptly named to match the songs contained thematically and genre/subgenre wise. Over the past several months since we subscribed we have been exposed to many great artists for whom we had never heard of. And they've exposed us to a lot of music by known artists that we had never heard or was even aware of. For example, I had no idea Nora Jones was in an alt country mostly acoustic band. Great stuff. And on and on.

The songs are there to match anybody's tastes ... but one likely ain't gonna get there with vinyl, CD's and tapes sans the patience of Job. Of course Spotify harbors over 80,000,000 songs so there sure oughta be something for everyone.

So here's a 77 year old screaming "it's streaming baby!" smile I guess for our age demographic we are outliers but we stream most of the day at home and always in the vehicles. Other than a bit of evening tv and when we are hiking/biking it’s music constantly.

Bud

PS Here are a few blues playlists showing today
Blues & Roots Rock
Blues Classics
Lone Star Blues
Electric Blues
Blues Party
Upbeat Blues smile
Blues Live and Loud
Blues Drive
Slide Guitar Heroes
Modern Blues
Black Coffee Blues
Healing Blues
Midnight Blues
Blue Ballads

That’s not half of them and doesn’t include the daily mixes and the discovery lists. And when you find a list you like weekly updates will add similar songs to it. I’m really doing a lousy job of describing it.

Hi Bud

Do you guys listen to music while you ride your mountain bikes? I would assume that requires a lot of skill and concentration. We have recumbent bikes but I want to see the sights and listen to the sounds of nature when we are out riding.

I ask the question because many things I do require my complete attention. Fifty miles offshore running at 30 knots in an open fishing boat by myself, I need to stay focused if I want to get home. Same thing when I have my hand inside a five hundred volt tube amp or flying a plane. Even driving the car I need to stay focused. There is a seemingly endless variety of dangerous machines involved in most things I do.

I have satellite radio in the car but I mostly use it when I am parked. There are stations I like, but as soon as a song comes on I don't find interesting, I switch channels.

I like a lot of different styles of music. I assume that having a computer or a person select songs based on some criteria would be valuable. It is unlikely the band I saw I liked on Pluto TV would ever have come up because I would have never asked for that type of music. I have hundreds of CDs but rarely turn them on. The CDs were more valuable before youtube.

As you said, there are millions of songs on Spotify, and even with the best list, that is an endless supply of new music. It stands to reason that anyone would find this useful.

How, for example, would I find you guys if I did not know you?

My inability to listen to new music has not so much to do with what exists or how it is presented. I just have too many things going on to make it a priority.

Perhaps in the near future, an AI can track what I like, sort through those 80,000,000 songs, and present me with the top 1000. That would be cool.

This AI business is becoming very useful for me because it can answer technical questions and do difficult and time-consuming calculations.

We can hope for a bright future. That is certainly possible.

Cheers,

Billy

We mountain bike raced for many years (Janice was a three time state champ) and during those years when sprint training or doing time intervals, etc., we would listen but never when riding technical trails or racing ... it was actually prohibited in racing. And nowadays while we do not ride as demanding trails as we used to we still do not listen. We prefer not, as you alluded to, distract from the required focus plus we enjoy the sounds of nature!
