So I ask the following question on two website forum. The Reaper forum and the Harrison Mixbus forum. Before I post the question a little background. I purchased Mixbus 32c during a weekend sale. I also bought Reaper. These were purchased as a possible replacement for Presonus studio one. Which I decided to replace due to trying to keep future expenses down. So on to the question.
“How many of you use both Reaper and Mixbus? For those who do could you share your thoughts on your personal comparisons with these two platforms. Pros, cons, experiences etc.
I ask because I recently bought both platforms as a way to transition from Studio one which I will say I truly loved but hated the subscription version and didn’t want to upgrade until I explored other options. I just completed a project tracked in both Reaper and Mixbus 32C. I wanted to see how my experience match that of others who have and or still use both products. Please don’t bash one or the other as both get the job done. I am looking for honest input as to workflow, overall experiences and such.”
Some of the responses were helpful, but most were down party lines. Some almost comical. As I expected from the Reaper forum I got the usual “never tried it because Reaper is the very best ever no need to try anything else especially like the knew ‘solve world hunger or find world peace plugins’ p.
I got from the Mixbus folks a bit more practical input, but still some of the ‘ I only use MB cause it sounds waaaaaaay better’
The end results was I never really got a truly helpful answer. Oh well better luck next time. I do appreciate some of the open dialog we have round these parts.

Rob, I saw you over in Reaper forum. Your question started some heated rhetoric. Don't know why people get so argumentative. I didn't respond there since I don't use MixBus so have nothing to contribute. But what you got is pretty much what I would have expected from... Which DAW is Better and Why? Here in this forum we are a little me sensible and forgiving in regards to permitting our reponses to stray from topic. Which is the only reason I have responded now. good luck Dan

Rob, if your current version of StudioOne is not subscription and meets your needs why are you looking to change just because future releases will be subscription based.

Thanks Dan, i really didn't expect much from the reaper crowd. I know some of them like yourself are great dudes. There has been and always will be the drooling nut jobs that sleep in Reaper PJs and eat Reaper cereal for breakfast. I really didn't ask which is better, i ask for some comparisons between them, for those who had experience on both. One of the things i have always been turn off about Reaper is the mentality of hard core users to jump on every forum board known to man and sing the praises of Reaper even when the discussion is not related to Reaper. Perfect example, I use to be on the cakewalk forums back in the day. Someone could ask something like "how do you change the color of your tracks?" and a reaperite would respond In "Reaper you do this, and it will butter your toast as well!!!!" Aaahhhh!!!!! So I am trying to be open minded and ignore that and use Reaper as it was intended a DAW, not to save the whales and bring about world peace! Although i hear they perfected the "Grammy winning plugin"
Jim, the issue is and was i subscribed to SD1 6 sphere and decided not to continue with that as i really don't need all the other things. I never use them. I went back to SD1 5 and they have no record of my purchase and bounced me back to version 4. I looked around a bit for proof but after a while it was just wasting time. I got an email for Mixbus over the weekend a couple weeks back and it was on sale for $99 for the top version (normally $349), i thought what the heck i'll try it. I do really like it as my needs are not fancy. Then i had a couple issues up front with it (learning curve) and had a project to finish, SO i fired up the old reaper demo and it did a very smooth job of the project. So heck i bought it too $60
Yeah i know for $160 i could have bought SD1 6! Yep, but i found out i like simple. While Reaper routing is not simple the overall program is, and the upgrade path is a lot cheaper. Guess what i found a hidden gem or "Jim" if you like in it. The video capability it very good.
As far as mixbus. It is a very cool program in it's own rights. The ability to mix with build in FX on every track is pretty nice and the end results are very solid. No fiddling with extra plugins, except maybe reverb. Just use the comp, EQ and such in the channel strips and master bus and you are good to go.
So for $160 I got two programs, one with pretty cool video and a flexible and powerful features and another one with a very strong and rich mix down approach.

Rob,
Thanks for answering my question. That's a shame PreSonus doesn't have a record of your Studio One 5 purchase.

It’s not a big deal the upgrade price is not bad from 4 to 6 and actually the same price as 5 to 6 so it’s fair. I really don’t care 80% of the work is done in BiaB now.
Hey by the way, how’s Charlie doing these days?

My younger brother, Charlie, is doing well as far as I know. He attended Herbfest. Charlie lives in South Carolina while I live in North Carolina so we do not get to see each other as much as we would like to.

If you think about how fiction becomes fact of you hear it often enough this isn't shocking. Once Steve in Wichita says "Pro Tools is way too complicated and it takes a long time to learn how to use it", suddenly Bob in Omaha. who has never seen Pro Tools, agrees, and tells his local pals "Oh man Pro Tools is RIDICULOUS to use! That's why I stay with Whatzahoozits DAW for al my mixing." And that spreads exponentially.
And the more Avid (See what I did there?) the fan base is, the faster the rumors spread.
Bottom line: use what you like, and shut up. Your opinion only has value to you. And the weak minded and lazy who follow the sheep rather than expending the energy to learn for themselves. I have watched this for years, both in real life and on these forums, how people continue to praise Reaper, largely because it's free. That also feeds into the "richest corpse in the graveyard" mentality.
I really just don't like people.

Well...my DAW can beat up your DAW and has won every arm wrestling contest we have had. Plus, if you don't like that I will just take my football and go home.
Something about "Teenage Wasteland" comes to mind...lol Oh, I forgot, we are all adults here...lol NOT! lol
Eddie has been so exceptionally pleasant lately I guess I better call him to see if he is really OK!
Trev is so far out in the boondocks of western Australia at the moment there is no possibility of him causing any trouble...lol ( keep your eyes open for those nasty slithering things)
Expecting useful feedback on the Reaper forum is like getting medical advice from Facebook...lol
Cheers,
Billy
“Amazing! I’ll be working with Jaco Pastorius, Charlie Parker, Art Tatum, and Buddy Rich, and you’re telling me it’s not that great of a gig? “Well…” Saint Peter, hesitated, “God’s got this girlfriend who thinks she can sing…”
