I have been away from BIAB for a couple of years so I wonder if something has changed. I am using 2023.
My Roland SD50 does not change to a different midi patch even though the track title says I have changed. I don't think it is a synth problem because when I change songs each track plays the correct midi sound but they seem to be frozen regardles of how I change the patch by right clicking and selecting a new patch.
I did a search and there are past references to HI-Q patches but I have never knowingly used HiQ.
Thanks
Tony

Is the midi track which is not changing - Midi (yellow) or a SMT (Blue)?

Tony, assuming that you have Win 10 and the Win 10d drivers installed it may be that your Roland SD50 is not accepting program change commands. Is there a setting in the Roland SD50 for program changes that need to be addressed?

PS - I assume, I know how dangerous that is, that you are only changing the patches and not the patches AND MIDI channels.

I cannot find such a Roland setting and the synth is responding correctly when I load a different song with different patches in different tracks. The problem only happens when I try to change patches in a loaded song.
I am not changing channels and when I look at the channel list, the "new" patch is shown correctly in the channel list but the "old" patch plays.

Also - just realized that the problem is exactly the same when I switch to VSTi/DXi so it is nothing to do with the Roland?

Hi Tony, I just tried changing patches here and everything works just fine.

I'm assuming you are clicking on OK so the next thing to try is the return to factory settings. That is under options/return to factory settings. Select the first option, return most to factory settings. Let us know if that worked.

Hi Tony,

Are you using a MIDI file from elsewhere or is this a BIAB song file?

It would help a great deal if you could upload one of the problem SGU/MGU files so that forum members can test it. It's really hard to solve problems like this without hands-on access to the actual problem. Putting the songfile into Dropbox and posting a link in this thread would probably be the easiest way to share the file.

Regards,
--Noel

Our forum members are super knowledgeable and have a lot of troubleshooting know-how, so providing the file would certainly help get to the bottom of things. Also, if you'd like to send in the file to us as well at support@pgmusic.com, we'd be happy to take a look too! We can go over your MIDI settings in general with you to see if we can isolate something there as well. Also, are your tracks frozen? You can tell they are in the mixer by looking where the M and S buttons are beside each track. There's another button with what looks like a snowflake icon. If your tracks are frozen, they will be lit up blue.

Have you downloaded the patch map for the Roland SD50 from here?

https://www.pgmusic.com/support_miscellaneous.htm

And then, when selecting the MIDI patch, choose Higher Bank Patch and then Open *.PAT to load the correct patch map, before selecting the patch from the pull-down on the left? I'm simplifying the steps here because I assume you know thenm and did them, but if not, I can give step-by-step instructions. Please excuse me if you know this, but it's often helpful in diagnosing a problem not to assume anything. [With any MIDI external synth, to get sounds that are not General MIDI (GM), you must first load the appropriate patch map for your MIDI synth.]

Thanks for the suggestions.
Jerry in tech support resolved it for me by suggesting I delete the two files Mysetup.dk and
intrface.bbw in the bb folder. I had forgotten this magic fix which often solves issues. He also reminded me to run as administrator but I was already doing this.

I'm glad that fixed it.

Another way to accomplish this through the menus is Options, Return to Factory Settings, Most. You are prompted to save your settings first.

You can also Save or Load your settings in that same menu. Since you have things working, it's a good idea to Save the settings now.
