This song has its roots in a family member struggling with alcoholism

Evil Mistress

https://soundcloud.com/user-618393096/evil-mistress-v2

V1
He met her at a high school party
He was seventeen years old
She beckoned like a silent whisper
She touched his lips and she warmed his soul
He stood with her beside the dance floot
Let his fingers trace her curves
Her aroma filled his head and set a fire to his nerves

V2
They'd get together every evening
And for hours they'd conspire
She convinced him there were shortcuts
To all the things that he desired
But all he found were detours
That led to dead end roads
Spun his wheels in the gravel
And never reached his goals

Chorus
'cause she is an evil mistress
It's plain for all to see
All she'd bring into his life was strife
And misery
He was beguiled by her enchantments
Bur her magic was a curse
Soon she'd become the only one
That could satisfy his thirst

v3
Now they meet up at the local tavern
When his day at work is done
You'll find them sitting all alone
Just pretending like they're having fun
Sometimes she leaves him maudlin
Sometimes she leaves him mean
But mostly she just leaves him
So he don't feel a God damned thing

Chorus
'Cause she is an evil mistress
It's plain for all to see
All she's brought into his life is strife
And misery
He was beguiled by her enchantments
But her magic was a curse
Now she's become the only one
Who can satisfy his thirst

Good write, Redeye although I think you should consider replacing "her aroma" with "her perfume".
"Perfume" conjures up a nicer smell. wink

Not keen on the voice double effect.
It sounds a little rough around the edges to my ears.

Good write and arrangement.

I'll be nit-picky and suggest that you can get a less robotic sound from the harmonies by using something instead of the lead vocal, so it doesn't track as closely.

But that's a minor thing. Nice work! laugh

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give that a try.

Redeye, this is a great story set to music.

I agree about the harmonies but everything else is OK IMHO.

Redeye,

Very much a 3-chords-and-the-truth kind of song.
Made me envision a Woody-Guthrie-type on a corner with an old guitar, case opened for change.
Well done.
