Just a short idea of what the amp sounds like with a tremolo part at the end. The amp is not turned up much and there is still a good bit of head room. https://soundcloud.com/planobilly/amp-testBilly

Very clean, and I didn't smell smoke...
I am especially impressed by people who can do this because I am the world's worst solderer.

I could teach you how to solder in about 10 min. It is really not difficult if someone shows you how AND you have the right equipment.
The amp can get pretty gnarly if you turn everything up. I have not tried the three-string guitars yet. I played through a TS9 peddle, and it sounds and reacts normally. The above clip is through a vintage Celestion. I do not like the sound of the 15" Supro speaker, but it is not in an enclosure yet.
There is zero noise at idle. I have finally figured out how to make silent "small" amps. High-gain stuff is much more difficult.

That sounds good. I'd be curious how it responds to humbuckers at a more substantial volume.

I'd call that a success, Billy.

Thanks guys,
I will make another sound clip. A tube screamer works pretty well for a more overdriven sound that I like. Using a tube screamer is pretty common on many amps of this nature.
I have several speakers to try with this amp. I am still in the experimental stage.
The days of turning a tube amp up to over 110db are past...lol The amp is loud enough that the neighbors would be calling even at Herbs' house...lol
The signal can be routed through two separate channels or through both. That is different from the original design.
Channel two does not have a lot of volume and I have not figured out exactly why or even if that is normal based on the new design.

Perhaps Gordon or Trev can comment on the lower volume issue. Notice that the plate voltage on pin six V1 is 110VDC. Perhaps a resistor to ground of, say 150K would bring up the volume without producing the distortion caused by the 270K resistor on the plate at pin 1. I assume also another .047 cap would be needed. Billy

Another short clip with the gain turned up. The guitar setting has not changed but I would normally decrease the treble. https://soundcloud.com/planobilly/amp-test-3Billy

Lol.... nonsense! I had one amp back many years ago that was like that. There were several inputs. Clean and distorted inputs for the two channels and a third input that was foot switchable between the two or....you could also use the center input which actually fed both channels simultaneously and dial in the amount of clean on channel 1 and the amount of distortion on channel 2 to get the balance that you wanted. It was a 50w carvin amp. It had a bad habit of blowing out the IC for the distorted channel. So much so that I had a conversation with the techs at carvin and they ended up sending me a whole lot of those chips. It also blew out the 70w rated speaker several times. I started using a better speaker cabinet that could handle the power that amp put out and only used the factory speaker for practice in my living room. That was a really nice amp.

I remember my Fender Bandmaster that was great on its own. Then I added a 4x12 cabinet under it and it was even better.
Then I made a real mistake and started adding pedals that added distortion and gain, and I eventually got it to overdrive to a point where I blew out 2 of those 12s. Ended up running it so hot I smoked it. Love the tubes, but when they get so hot you can roast hot dogs over them, it's time for solid state amps.
