Hi all-
When I try to switch from MME drivers to ASIO drivers, and go into the "Audio Driver Control Panel," I get an orange error message box popping up. It says "Window 117 Error Please contact PG Music support." My setup is below. I've tried everything I can think of. No luck. Thanks for any guidance!

Set Up:
Kawai VPC-1 Controller, midi in to Dell Laptop with intel i7 processor, 32GB Ram, 1 TB SSD storage; Behringer UMC 202HD interface (i've also tried others);
BIAB windows 23 ultrapak

Welcome to the forum.

There have been other mentions of this 117 error, but to my knowledge, and I'm just another user, there has not been a definitive solution. Things to check include:

Make sure your Windows audio settings are set to a sample rate of 44.1K and 16-bit.

Make sure any digital audio device you don't use is disabled. Prime culprit: the monitor (screen) that has its own speakers.

And you may say, I've already made sure my setup has both these things set correctly, but did Windows do an update? I've had the Windows updates turn a HD Monitor audio back on and change the default audio to 24-bit 48K. The reason this may show up as a problem in BIAB and not in your other audio programs is that those other programs may handle settings other than 44.1/16.

Also, make sure you do not have more than one digital audio program running that uses ASIO. Yes, there are multiclient ASIO devices now but why look for trouble?

And as you will see in this other thread, several of us just use MME in BIAB anyway. Several reasons.

And do take the program's advice and contact PG Music Support. There's a tab at the top of this page.

Sorry to hear that. Does 'all' include asking for help from PG Music Support? If you asked them, what did they say?

Users AudioTrack and Rharv come to mind immediately as people who might know more on this topic.

I've researched a fair bit. I think 117 is related to ASIO and is not a Windows generated error code.

Does the message state:
"Window 117 Error"
or
"Windows 117 Error"?

I think PG Music is the best place to go.

Separately, Windows Error code 117 is:
ERROR_INVALID_CATEGORY
117 (0x75)
The IOCTL call made by the application program is not correct.

Some ASIO interfaces have very particular bugs / behaivour with endless variations/combinations of software+hardware.

For example I have a portable ASIO interface... If I change buffers on it's own control panel, BIAB would detect "Change in audio device" and then fall silent. No sound will come out of BIAB. The trick I found was just to enter ASIO setting in BIAB without changing anything and exiting out of it. That way it refreshes the connection and life becomes beautiful again. I was not able to find any other solutions to that glitch. Interface is Apogee One.

The moral of the story is, if you can get your hands on / borrow something comonly used, like Focusrite, that will give you a much clearer picture of the issue.

P.S. I assume you already tried downgrading/upgrading/reinstalling interface drivers & firmware. That can also be an issue. For the interface I described above, newest driver is a nightmare. Stuttering and all that wonderful stuff. I had to downgrade to make it work right.

Thanks - I'm working with PG Music Support. Still no success. The error is "Window [singular] 117 error"

Thanks - I'm getting my hands on a Focusrite tomorrow. We'll see if I can figure out the problem.
