Hi all. I've been using BIAB but only recently upgraded to 2009 with the RealTracks. As a sax player I've always used the concert pitch adjust settings so that I can play along with the chords onscreen without having to sight-transpose (yes, getting lazy!) but have noticed there doesn't appear an option anywhere to do a similar thing with RealTracks songs. Have I missed something or am I unable to do a concert pitch adjustment when using RealTracks styles??

Cheers in advance

What sax do you play?

I'm mostly tenor, a little alto, and also wind synth.

I've had to learn to transpose from concert to tenor, but it's very difficult for the alto.

I play both alto and tenor and don't have a problem transposing by sight....but I've always used BIAB as an improvisation teaching tool with students and the concert pitch adjust for MIDI data is fantastic for situations like this. I'm pretty mystified as to why there doesn't appear to be something similar for RealTracks though....it's evidently easy to transpose the audio tracks with a couple of clicks but why is there no concert pitch adjust when the software is doing essentially the same thing anyway? i.e. BIAB is still adjusting (transposing) the output by a set interval.....the only difference with concert pitch adjustment is that it's displaying the chords in a different key.

Surely I'm missing something here! It doesn't seem right that there's a concert pitch adjust function for MIDI but not for RealTracks. Is this a bug? Should the concert pitch adjust for MIDI do the same thing for RealTracks (even though it's not MIDI) but there's a bug in BIAB and it doesn't currently work?

In any case, this issue with RealTracks is really annoying because I'm limited to using the MIDI stuff for teaching......the main reason I upgraded was to be able to use RealTracks as a much higher quality accompaniment for teaching purposes!

Hi,

The concert pitch setting in the MIDI | MIDI Settings dialog only applies to MIDI tracks - RealTracks can't be transposed like that. You should be able to use the visual transpose setting in the Notation Window Options dialog to accomplish this however...

That may answer another question I had.
The realtracks are not midi or straight audio
Is it like midi routed to an instrument track all in one?

I suppose if I played more alto from charts, I would learn to transpose it by sight (I played tenor in school and it has always been my main sax), but I can definitely see your concern for your students. After all, sight transposing is a skill to learn after many of the fundamentals are under your fingers.

Since I don't use the Real Tracks, I can't help you with that. For me it's just another reason to stick with MIDI and a good synthesizer module instead of a computer sound card.
