Somehow, I have changed an option somewhere that causes the mix baked into a style to be ignored when changing a song to a new style selection.
Can someone kind soul out there please point me to the preference box that controls this action?

I'm not sure what you mean by "ignored when changing a style". Are you saying that the newly chosen style supersedes the the current existing style and replaces it (this is normal behaviour), or are you meaning that the newly chosen style doesn't load because the present style refuses to allow a new style to replace it?

Do you have an audio file in the same folder as the song file with the same name as the song file? If so rename it and see if that changes anything.
Also, none of the tracks are frozen?

Yes, but the mixer settings of volume and pan remain unchanged from their previous values.
No tracks are frozen.

in the old days of midi only if i remember correctly all instruments in all styles were set to a volume level of 90. i've just opened some very old midi only songs and that is the case.
i always thought that RelaStyles were mixed and balnced by PG but a recent file i created with Realtracks had default volumes of 90 in the mixer. if i changed the volume on an instrument to 110, when i loaded a new Real style that instrument remained at 110.
i closed BIAB reopened the file which i hadn't saved with the new style and it had the the instrument back at a volume of 90.
this is what the OP is talking about. so maybe PG don't mix and balance their styles. or do they do so in a hidden fashion? could it be that the styles are mixed but the mixer reading 'tweaked' to read 90 so you have a good visible range of volume to play with? unlikely but all i can think of. the BIAB volumes of 90 read 90 on the RB mixer when you open the BIAB file in RB.
but the OP is right. change style and you get the volume you set in the mixer not the default of 90. it makes no difference to me because i mix in RB but its an interesting point.
both BIAB and RB are latest versions with all update patches applied.
