I just got BB2010 as the Ultra Plus Pak on USB hard drive. I think this is the biggest improvement in the software I've seen.
But I'm a little worried ...am I right in assuming that the files on the USB hard drive are not in any way write-protected?
I've installed the program to my built-in hard drive as before, but I'm running the real tracks and drums from the USB.
What if this gets corrupted - then I've no way of restoring it, and making a backup of such a large amount of material is just not feasible.
Is there some way of protecting the files that will not prevent the program from running and - if anyone from PG is around - would I get a replacement if the files were corrupted, and what would it cost me?
I'm an optimist really, with several levels of anti-virus protection, but there's always some risk.

Back it up to another external drive. It is the most cost effective way to protect it.

I used 7zip to put the initial content of the HDD into a zip-archive split into 20 files, 4.4GB each. to make it even harder for a virus to infect the archive, you may use password encryption. finally, you may burn these archives onto 20 dvds

I just backed all the files up to another external hard drive (where I keep all my installables, so I never have to look for CDs).
However, what I found when I tried to install from that backup copy was, since I put it into a subfolder, the installer program wouldn't work anymore (from the backup hard drive). So I found I can use the old DOS "subst" command to essentially make the computer think the installer was in the root directory (for example, subst o: "l:\apps\install\pgmusic\biab2010ultra"). That worked great for XP and Vista, but would not work on Win7. I ended up using the original USB hard drive to install to Win7 (I install everything locally and leave the orginal USB hard drive as another backup copy of the original files). I now have two copies as a backup, plus the installed version on my computer.
Disk space is relatively cheap. It's a good insurance policy to back everything up. You can find some good deals at CostCo and Newegg.

2010 was my third BIAB USB drive. I made a second copy of 2010 on the drive were 2009.5 use to live and I erased the drive were 2009 used to live and use it for songs. When 2010.5 comes out I continue on in this fashion. Two drives for copies the rest for storage of songs etc.
