Hello,

in making some new experiences (after several years) with Biab for live playing I found 2 things that don't work as they should:

1.
In the preferences I found the option "Pause Play until MIDI or Key received". That's a great option - but it doesn't work:
The Midi channels and the audio (RealTrack) channels don't run correctly in time when I start playing.
I don't know whether this is only a problem when RealTracks are present. But on the other side: When no RealTracks are present, I don't need this option, because then the generating of the arrangement works fast enough.

2.
For further playing after (!) the song ended I wanted to cange the patch for the THRU channel at the ending at the song. But BiaB ignores this patch change completely! After I played the song the patch change I entered before has even completely disappeared!
More than that: I tried the patch change at other bars - also within the normal song part, not the ending. With the same result! For testing I also tried to change the patch for the melody part at some bars. But it didn't work neither.
And yes - I allowed the patch canges in the Global Song Overrides Settings!

And here there's my opinion to one of the newest changes in the 295 BETA built:

I was glade to have the automatic tempo change for RealTracks to half or double speed. This was just perfect!!! Why should this be changed?
But when you change to manual setting: Please give us the option do still let this change automatically!

Thanks!

1. Always worked for me so some genius here will figure it out.

2. Save with the plus sign. I save the thru part all the time, say I'm playing piano for the first song and the organ patch on the 2nd on thru, I just press F5, change the thing there, then use the Save+ button and all is well. If you can't get that to work, you need to tell us all about your system, hardware, software, midi source, and all that jazz.

For #1, you could Freeze Tracks and save the song, so when you reload it, it should start playing almost immediately in a live situation, and be in sync with MIDI.

If your Real Tracks and MIDI are always out of sync, there is an adjustment for that. Write back if that is the case.

For #2, as of BIAB version 2010, the Save+ button John mentioned is simplified and is quick to save all settings by default with the song. I always save songs this way.

if none of your F5 patch changes are holding, that's one issue. We would need to know about your MIDI setup and if it's external, whether your patch map is correctly written. If you are talking primarily about that last change in the song not taking, try doing it just before the song has ended, not 'at the ending', even if you have to extend the song one bar.

Also, depending on your MIDI setup, take a look at the GM menu, Send MIDI Message options. For example, if Send General MIDI is checked, uncheck it.

About your last item, the automatic tempo change, I suggest you add that to the Wishlist.

Hello Matt,

#1.
Freezing songs is a good way for instantanious live playing. The only thing for me is: it costs so much of additional disk space. That's why I was happy to find this wait-for-the-pressing-of-a-key option. This would help me at least for some situations.
But I might take the couse of freezing and unfreezing songs for actual live playing.

#2.
I tried with other patch changes in other parts of the songs. The result is the same: the changed F5 patch for the thru part won't hold.
(I'm working with built 294; so it will automatically safe the song with the patches. In former versions I always safed songs with the Save + option).
My Midi setup is:
MIDI input driver: EDIROL PCR-A1 (for my EDIROL PCR-A30 Master-Keyboard)
VST/DirctX - Plugin is Bandstand VST

I tried Higher Bank Patches as well as Normal Bank Patches. The result is the same.

#3.
Seems to late. Built 295 is ready in the meantime. I would have appreciated to have the additional automatic option as in the former built.

Thank you for your help.

Freezing songs (using version 2010) doesn't take up disk space. The frozen songs are still tiny (about 50KB).
(there is another feature where you 'freeze' the whole arrangement to the audio track, which saves it as audio. But that one isn't used much now, with the new freeze track feature in 2010).

Have Fun!

Can someone who uses Bandstand help Ulrich with changing patches on the Thru part?

Hello Ulrich,

If you are using the AsstSettings.ini file from the BandStand Technical Notes folder (that is, if you have copied that file to your main bb folder) try opening this file in notepad and changing this setting:
PlaybackPatches_RemoveEmbeddedTrackPatches=0

That will allow patch changes mid-song. However, since Bandstand takes a while to load a new sample, it may cause drop-outs.

Might that be the cause of my Tyros patches NOT changing in BB, while any RT's are loaded? The patches change fine with an all midi style, but if I use a style with 1/2 RT's and 1/2 midi, I can't change ANY patch?

Thanks,

Trax

Thank you very very much!
Thanks Matt for your concern on my behalf,
Thanks Peter for your important hint with the file size in the new freeze function,
Thanks Andrew for the important help with the AsstSettings.ini file,

you really helped me a lot. Problems #1 and #2 are solved with your answers!
And - as I suppose - it will help Muzic Trax with his Tyros patch problem also.
Thanks again!

BIAB is great - and staff and forum are also.
So there's a lot of reasons to support the email to the Queen ihn your behalf!
