Yes I Do

Another oldy we posted about 10 years ago. I think it has a Lou Ralls sound from the mid-to-late 60s, maybe even the early 70s. As was our previous song, this one was created using BIAB v11.5 in early 2013.

Mixed in Audacity 3.42

A couple things of note:

1. It could use a bit of de-essing. It's not too bad, but still noticeable in places.

2. I did the oooohhhhs on the chorus as BIAB didn't have those RTs at that time. I mixed them louder than I should have - particularly in the first instance of the chorus. Thanks to David Cuny, I signed up @ Spleeter.com and will try to isolate those tracks and tone them down - maybe eliminate them.

3. At the 2:03 point, the lead sax fades a little bit. Not sure why, but will look into it.

4. The sax lead continues (at a lower volume) for a measure after the vocal comes back in and then quickly fades out. Some folks may not like that, but I do in this case. In my opinion, it compliments the vocal. So, it will probably stay.

I don't have a list of the BIAB tracks as this is one of the 30 or so songs that disappeared due to a laptop frying back in late January 2013. It took out the HD and thumb drive that was plugged in at the time, both places where I had saved the song. I now save all my songs on the HD, a thumb drive, and an external HD that's plugged in only when I need it. It's, obviously, one of the Smooth Jazz styles.

Thanks for listening and any comments you might care to leave.

Yes I Do

© 2012 Alan D. David, BMI

(v1)
You asked if I still love you
If I still feel the same for you
As I did back when our love was new
When our skies were always blue
Well Honey, don’t you worry
I still love you, yes I do

CHORUS

I’ll always love you;
The way I did when our love was new
I still desire you, the flame is burning true
No need for you to wonder, cuz yes I do

(v2)
And yes, I still want you
I want to make love to you
I want to thrill you, the whole night through
See the fire in your eyes of blue
So Honey, don’t you worry
I still want you, yes I do

Instrumental Chorus

(v3)
Yes I wanna hold you
Make you smile when you’re blue
Keep the flame alive, make one from two
Just one love that’s me and you
So Honey, please don’t worry
I still need you, yes I do

(REPEAT CHORUS)
I’ll always love you
The way I did when our love was new
I still desire you, the flame is burning true
No need for you to wonder, cuz yes I do

Alan,

A nice listen. Laid-back R&B - you do a good job with BIAB...
Vocals sound good to me. The mix, too.

Alan, really enjoyed everything about this! Love this style of music, and your treatment is spot on from start to finish. You should follow through with your remix list, but honestly, this mix is fine to my ears. Definitely keep (re)sharing your vault finds...

Oh, this makes me want to go back through all of your recording, Alan. What a good song, AND an excerllent vocal. The problems you hear in the mix are all lost on me because the song is so... good and enjoyable.

Enjoy whatever happens!

We agree with you on the 60’s Lou Rawls feel, Al, and you do it so well. Smooth!

The soft electric piano and the sax are both very good and we also like that sax lead continuing quietly under your vocal.

It’s also a sweet lyric (as Janice says) that those of us married for over 40 years couldn’t agree with more.

Enjoyed it!

Hi Bob,

Thank you so much. I, too, enjoy these oldies. I just finished writing three songs set in the late 50s and 60s. They're typical sounds of the early years of rock n roll. I'll probably start posting them in a couple of weeks.

Glad you liked this one!

Best to you,

Alan

Hello Ron,

I've loved Smooth RnB since it first came on the scene. Lou Ralls is probably my favorite artist of the genre.

I truly appreciate those kind words. It makes an old heart feel good!

Wishing you everything good.

Howdy Marty,

You are always so kind with your comments. Your support and encouragement mean a lot. As I've mentioned in the past, I grew up playing traditional country. Did so from 1963 until 1996. It bought me a nice home!!!

Most of my vocals in this style are from my earlier years here at the BIAB User's forum, basically 2011 - 2015. there are a few mixed in thereafter, but most of them are in the earlier years.

wishing you the very best,

Alan

Hello Folks!

Thank you so much for all the kindness! I, too, really like that EP RT. And I've been very lucky finding some good sax RTs for the style.

So, you and the lovely Janice have been married 40+ years - you must have married her when she was 12! From her pictures, she doesn't look old enough to have been married that long. Nonetheless, congrats!

Thank you again for the very nice comments.

Best to both of you,

Alan

What to say! everything fits in your song. I really like the slightly fragile side of the singing and the choirs. the well-delivered intro and the sax solo. Do it again!

Alan...It sounds fine in all aspects to me! You were born to create these jazzy compositions! That sax solo really works and the maj7 chords are beautiful in here! Your vocal was excellent! It's a shame I didn't know you when you used to live nearby me, we could have really worked on some great music together!
Thanks, TB

HI Torrey,

Your comments always give me encouragement and warm my soul. Di and I both love Smooth Jazz and Smooth RnB songs. We always feel "at home" when we're doing them.

Maj7ths and minor 9ths are, in my opinion, some of the prettiest chords - diminishes, also.

And yeah - getting together would have been a treat. I lived in St. Charles, MO - about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from where you live. That would have been a real treat!

Again, many thanks for your support and kindness.

As everyone else has rightly said: smooth. laugh

There's actually a free version of Spleeter that's got a GUI, but if you're happy with Spleeter.com, I won't argue.

Nice song!
