I've always wanted to write a Christmas song but had never managed to get round to doing so until now.
It's difficult to avoid the usual Christmas cliques when writing lyrics, so I've attempted to avoid this by writing a heartfelt love song
which I feel more comfortable doing, but you've got to include sleigh bells haven't you ? (lol).

I'm running BIAB 2023 and using Drums, Bass, Banjo, Mandolin & 12-string electric guitar Realtracks from FOLKROK.STY
Piano Realtrack from PNO16BR.STY and
Accordion Realtrack from ACPOP16.STY

I'm playing Electric guitar, and the Classic Bell and Forest Flute are played on an Ensoniq SQ1+ keyboard synth.
The sleigh bells at the start of the track were downloaded free from the internet (I can't remember which website).

In the silence of a dark winter night
We're walking in the fading light
But I don't feel the cold
'cause I've got you here to hold
You're the sun that warms my soul

Christmas is a time to rejoice
And being here with you is like a dream come true
I want to embrace your beautiful face
The joy that you give fills my heart

Silver stars shine ever so bright
Like tinsel when it catches the light
You're my star, you're my light
And I need you here tonight
A lovers flame that never will die

Wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas. Enjoy!

Andyman, cool and joyful tune. The backing sounded great, and I especially enjoyed the flute. Certainly sounded like Christmas to me! Hope you stick around. Merry Christmas!

Andy...really nice Christmas song...I love the sleigh bells...the whole track is great...it has a festive and holiday feel to it...my only thought for improvement would be to bring the vocals up in the mix a bit....they are quite good and need to be emphasized a tad more IMHO...the harmonies are top-notch...I would like to hear more of your songs for sure! Thank you for the advice firesong. You are not the only one who has recommended increasing the volume of the vocal tracks, so I have now
decided to take the good advice and I have edited it on Soundcloud. It now has the improvement.

Very nice to hear a new touching Christmas song without too many sleigh bells or instruments smile Beautiful melody, heartwarming story, enjoyable vocals and the flute solo is a perfect fit. The first song this year to get me into Christmas mood, thanks for that.

Band sounds great. I love that Christmas-like intro and outro. Chorus is catchy. I would say you were successful in writing a Christmas song.

Nice sound - catchy and pleasant tune.

I haven't heard an Ensoniq in years - I'm having flashbacks to the '80s!

Thanks for posting this! laugh

Thanks David. I hadn't played the Ensoniq for at least twenty years until I remembered that I liked the Classic Bell sound and thought that it would be ideal for the Christmas song. I'm glad that I decided to fire it up once more because I wouldn't otherwise have thought to use the Forest Flute as well. Some of those 80's synth sounds are actually quite good.

What a lovely, Christmas love song!
We felt like we were riding along in the sleigh with the snowflakes falling on us. 😊

This line “spoke to us” as they say:
“You're the sun that warms my soul.”

Great warm vocals and an open mix.
Great band and excellent performances by you.

Enjoyed it and Merry Christmas!

Andy, very enjoyable and the mix of the outside file with BIAB and your own talents works well. For my ears, the drums are too out front but it was an enjoyable listen, nevertheless.

Thanks Jan & Bud. I don't know if anyone noticed, but I borrowed the idea for the intro from Greg Lake's 'I Believe In Father Christmas'.

Wonderfully done, Andy. A very enjoyabe Christmas song. Excellent intrumentation, and a catchy chorus. Banjo, Mandolin & 12-string is the perfect trio to portry this, and. man, those bells and flute add a terriic holiday touch.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Hi Andy,

I thought I hadn't take a listen to your Christmas song.
So I start listening just now and from that moment I knew I listened to it.
Then I saw I made a comment on it 3 days ago, but apparantly I forgot to write to you here.
Wel that was obvious a mistake.
I liked your attempt making a Christmas song very much and for me you have passed that challenge with high figures!
Good song, nice vocals, lovely lyrics.
So, as I wrote on your songpage in SC: Now Christmas can come...!

Hi Andy,

This is the first of your music I've had the pleasure to listen to. And I'm delighted to have heard this! A nice, joyful Christmas tune that glides as smoothly as a sleight over a deep snow. Everything about this is first class. The bells were particularly a pleasure.

I do our family's genealogy and have a great story of my 3-greats uncle's family taking a horse-drawn sleigh ride every Christmas in the Ozark mountains of Southern Missouri (near Branson) in the 1880s. This brought that story to mind a put a huge smile on my face. Your song took me along on one of those rides. Thank you!

Merry Christmas to you and yours,

Alan & Di
