The new track view should only have the populated tracks that are being used show and auction under a context menu to add the blank next track.

This cleans up the interface makes it easier to open that view and keeps you focused on what you actually have versus A bunch of tracks that you may or may not want to use.

If you're still using the obsolete mixer view, then it should behave exact identical.

Also, to wean PGM off of the currently state of " all tracks are not equal" they should add a track number to each track because eventually that will be part of the solution for getting to "all tracks are equal".

^ This was discussed couple of years back in detail and most agreed that simplifying names to something like trk1 trk2 or t1, t2, t3 etc. would be a better way forward.

Not to high jack my own thread but the is a way out of the “all track not the same” jail.

You use a abstraction roll for tracks to be assigned a roll to each track that allows PGM to still have unique logic for things like drums but the roll is selected by the user with defaults based on instrument categories instead of it being base on hard coded locations.

I will be explaining more in the next Workflow video.

Back in my day the only time we started panic buying was when the bartender shouted "last call"!

+1 but down the list from the other workflow videos. Stiil a great idea. I hope they add to RB the ability to hide the unused tracks also like they did the unused FX busses.

I don't have a problem with unused tracks showing as long as 1) there is a vertical cursor (the very clear proposal in another video) and 2) there is a consistent numbering system for all the tracks (yes, Misha is correct that we spent a lot of time on this a few years ago). These ideas are essential for 'all tracks are equal' and the program is already moving in this direction by numbering the Utility tracks. Now get rid of any hard-coded differences for legacy tracks (bass, strings etc.) and this all makes more sense.

I might intentionally leave a track open for the moment but want to see that I've allocated a purpose to it for later use.

Could the 'eye' icon that is there in the mixer now take care of hiding unused tracks, even if those tracks occurred in the middle of tracks that were in use? Then it becomes an option, and I can have it the way I want it, and so can you.

But overall, +1

Yes, you can right mouse click context menu to add a track (even as a separator if you will) (you're really just showing the track) since the total number of tracks is hardcoded.
This is another request in the Workflow series really because this is a way that all DAW work, As it is convenient keeps the clutter down and doesn't show you things that you're not using.
At any rate, please consider a context menu in the track heeder area, opposed to the (Big Eye) method used in the old mixer.
It 1) is very un-orthodox, and
2) takes many clicks to get the results you want.
