FEAR GROWS IN THE DARK

they took to the streets armed to the teeth
because their god whispered the word
we never knew there was so much hatred
hidden in the hearts of the herd
trampling the flag they've drapped themselves in
it's supposed to belong to us all
give nothing away, keep it all themselves
their tribe safe behind a wall

   fear grows in the dark
   hatred burns in your heart
   everybody's out to get you
get them first whatever you do
   fear grows in the dark

no one wins in the war you wage
bound and chained by the branding
doesn't take much to turn the page
just truth and understanding
you've crowned your king
destruction reigns
you keep picking at the carcass
justifying lies with bigger lies
you fall deeper into darkness

   fear grows in the dark
   hatred burns in your heart
   everybody's out to get you
get them first whatever you do
   fear grows in the dark

Try it with headphones/earbuds at Full Volume...

Type something.

Hi Floyd
Cool that you have put together a hard rock/metal band
Together with your passionate vocals it has become a solid hard rock song.
You can do that more often
Many greetings
Andi ;-)

A really good ending, by the way

Floyd,

Hard hitting and date appropriate...

You have assembled a mind-blowing angry sounding band to accompany your excellent vocal. I love the mix on this - punchy and aggressive.

"trampling the flag they've drapped themselves in
it's supposed to belong to us all
give nothing away, keep it all themselves
their tribe safe behind a wall"

I think that just about says it all.

Awesome stuff...

Yeow!! "Floyd can do it." That's the answer to the question, "But who are we gonna get to present it?" Dang, Dude, is there any kind of song you can't do. This is phenominal. So far I've listened 3 times, and with each one my respect for your talents soars higher. Killer band and well conducted. Extraordinary vocal --well not extra for you. Man, I love that Celeste (our daughters name, too). Hey, I was watching the vid on what's new in Biab2024 and noticed some Floyd pianos in the demo. Any relation?

Enjoy whatever happens!

Nice job. Everything sounds nice and clear. I actually can't recall hearing this genre from you before. You did a fine job rocking it.

I had to go back and listen a second time, this time on the buds and set to an appropriately feisty volume level. Ahhhh yes!

The dramatic drum intro was very promising. The drums were really nicely played with fills and such. I liked the overall drum track a lot. At 2:30 where the drums come back in, they could have had a more dynamic re-entrance..... And perhaps a few beats later for a better impact. One thing I will do is for the drums coming back in is to use a volume envelope in my DAW to bump the first few beats of that drum track UP a couple of dB and then as soon as the instruments/band comes back in, drop the level immediately to it's normal level. That makes the drums HUGE for a second to increase the impact. Leaving it at the same level tends to get it buried when it needs to be front and center.

My only nit with this mix, in my personal opinion, is the overall low end. It's got an appropriate low end for pop and maybe even pop country, but it's not pop. This is more metal/rock.... the drums, especially the kick and snare need slightly more punch and the bass guitar really needs to be a huge component of the sound. I mentioned above how cool that drum intro was but then the bass guitar didn't quite enter at the appropriate level to balance the mix on the low end. The kick and the bass working together are the foundation of the band. I think overall, the drums are probably at the right point.... maybe a slight tweek and if the bass was balanced against the drums, they would be exactly where they needed to be. This genre needs a more substantial low end.

Aside from that, this is a good rocker. The Celeste added a unique flair to the ending.

Floyd, is there any genre where you do not excel? I doubt it.
Excellent groove and of course your vocal and lyrics are always professional.
Outstanding mix as well.
Loved it.

GREAT writing.
Fabulous distillation in the lyric.
The placement of the vocal in the mix is spot on. The outro is ace & the Celeste is perfect.
My only nit is with the right side rhythm guitar...but it's also about the best BIAB has to offer of that ilk so given the tools at hand:
Fabulous.

Cheers

Excellent job, really liked it. This type of genre is my type of music, i don't post any because nobody really listens. Keep up the great work, missed your new songs for a while. Thanks for being you.

Floyd, I never expected your (country) voice to fit this genre ... but it certainly does.
In fact, your clean voice positively enhances the contrast between the raw guitars and the dark content of your lyrics.
Excellent choice of instruments, and ending a loud guitar song with a Celeste is right up my alley.

Hi Floyd,

Man, Metal has to be about as far away from Country as you can get! Kudos for stepping outside your comfort zone, and pulling it off in a convincing manner!

First of all, great song, I just absolutely love the lyrics.

Band sounds good to me too. Not that I listen to much metal mind you, but I do listen to the hard rock music that preceded it.

Excellent outro!

Really well done, Floyd, enjoyed very much.

Hey this is a pretty cool song man.

I like the metal groove here.

Don't you think it be cool, however, to start off screaming:

WHAT THAT THE F>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!!!????!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rooarrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! F&&^%!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the 1st beat of the intro, and then go into the Verse??

It's metal ya know, so just a thought.

People DO want more artistic freedom around here, you know.

Just a thought.

smile

Good song.

Much to admire here, in no particular order:
- the overall energy
- Some nice rhymes in there
- The gtr only section at 2:15 introduces a nice contrast at just the right time
- The lack of pauses between the sections maintains the tension.
- the mirroring of the ‘everybody's out to get you…’ lines – to me this is really the strong point of this recording.
Not sure if it is the vocal processing chain you’re using or an accent thing but I’m really hearing ‘fare’ and not fear.
There’s perhaps an overuse of the harm voices – I’d have preferred at least first part of verse section with just the mel voice, so that a 2nd voice line (or even 2tracking) introduces a contrast
Finally Floyd you get my critic’s award for coming in at less than 3:00 – a lesson to us all!

Thanks, Bob.
I wanted to try a Pop-Metal-Country production (having just heard a "Metal Country" record). I'm satisfied with the result.
The date was a coincidence. Once I had the BAND and chord progression, I started writing lyrics over the top - and these came out (unplanned).
I had planned to post this a couple weeks from now, but the whole date thing dawned on me (like...Duh) and figured it had to be.

Floyd, fabulous song! Loved the way you busted out the big vibrato vocal on the chorus. And the celeste doubling the vocal in the last 1/3 is inspired. All this and a message, too! Almost too much to take in. Love it!

Floyd, I didn't quite go full volume with my cans in place; regardless, it was quite the experience without doing so! A different feel from the works I've heard from you before but it is top-notch from stem to stern. Lyrically, it is so well put together. No wasted words and one line leads to the next. Great job!
