Good Night on Soundcloud Good Night on YouTube
A song about making the night good before declaring it so (or maybe something like that). All of your comments, suggestions, opinions (good and bad) help me improve, and lord knows I could use it. File:Good Night.SGU Style is _RELIVE.STY (Relive 12-8 Organ n Piano Blues) RealTracks in style: 2733:Piano, Acoustic, Rhythm BluesSlow128Mike Sw 065 RealTracks in style: 2674:Guitar, Acoustic, Rhythm Blues12-8Brent Sw 065 RealTracks in style: 2734:Organ, Rhythm BluesSlow128Mike Sw 065 RealDrums in style:BluesRock128^1-a:SideStick, HiHat , b:Snare, HiHat Dave Bell of Blue Attitude played guitar, and I played bass and sang. Good NightMan, we need a boat. A flood is gonna come. Man, we need a little more time. Make it extra strong to keep us all afloat. God, we gotta make the climb. Sitting here we pray that help is on the way. Running we won't find what we could. We'll try to make it right while day turns into night. Before we say goodnight let's make it good. God, we need a light to keep this boat aright. Point the way to keep us on track. We always need your map to make the way more clear. We need that light to make our way back. Man, let's paddle fast. This boat won't always last. Let's seize the day and make it right. Let's stop this keeping score, and make our way to shore. Let's clear away the clouds before we say goodnight. To make a bad night good we must do what we should. Let's calm the storm. The shore's in sight. What little time remains we must undo the chains. Let's seize this stormy day and make a good good night. Intro-- E B C#m7 A-B V-- E A E B E B F#m E A A E E B7 B7 E-C#m7 F#m-B

Marty, nifty song with clever lyrics about...well, could be many things, couldn't it? Love the song, the arrangement and all the playing. Fantastic vocals, too! Nice one.

HI Marty,
Love the lyric! Great style, too. the arrangement puts everything where and how it should be. I do think Dave's guitar - as sweet as it is - is a wee bit louder than it needs to be. VBut heck, it's your song - and you know how to make a darned good song!
Your bass lines are always to admire. What kind of set-up do you use? Whatever it is, it gets the job done every time.
Another cooler than cool sound from you!

Marty, your ever present optimism shines through in this. When I think of you I always smile. Even your blue side isn’t depressing. Good job on the vocal and bass and I agree with Alan, the guitar as great as it is is a bit hot, Tom

ALan Thanks, Alan, you are absoluetly right about Dave being a wee bit loud. It's likely my subconscious trying to highlight the best of the song. I will fix it. As for my setup, it's pretty simple. I use a Fender P-Bass (Stu Hamm model) with Rotosound flatwound jazz strings that have been on since 2006. It goes through Focusrite into Cakewalk. Once the stem is brought to Reaper there may be some tweaks depending on the song. Groove with a blue sting - excellent vocal as always. That bass is ACE. Thanks, Ray. "What little time remains we must undo the chains. Let's seize this stormy day and make a good good night." Nice. There's always something about your songs that says "This would be a good guy to hang with...." LOVE that bass. Dave's guitar is tasty, though a bit rambunctious. fj

Got some Leonard Cohen vibes even though your voice is very different and the song contains a lot of electric guitar!

Marty and Dave, you have produced another masterpiece. Great vocal and lyrics. Super groove. I also got a Leonard Cohen vibe from the lyrics. FWIW - I also thought that Dave's guitar during the leads were a tad to loud. Super bass line!

Sounds great Marty! I like the way you're starting to put those chord progressions in there, that's really neat.
You sure do know how to stay on top of the blues.
Great job all around fellas. I can always count on you for some excellent blues material!

You always sound like you enjoy what you're doing Marty. Everything sounds fine on this (vocal, lyrics and BIAB). Dave's guitar is great but to my ears could be brought down a little closer to the other tracks in volume.

Quote from your reply to Tom: "Thanks, Tom. Thanks for pointing out the guitar loudness, too. I fixed it after Ray mentioned it. Marty,
Soundcloud will allow you to simply replace the current track with a newer version. It doesn't affect anything else - all comments on the SC track remain - and it doesn't affect the forum comments. they're still there.
Under the wave form depiction of your song on SC, the third option from the left is "Replace Track". You find the new version from your computer files and upload it. It will replace the previous version and nothing else changes. You don't have to reload to the PG Forum. The forum listener will automatically hear the newer version when he/she clicks on the original link you provided in the PG Forum post. I've done it dozens of times. Remember, once you've uploaded the newer version to SC, you don't have to do anything else. The newer version simply replaces the older version. All comments from both posting forums remain.
Hope that helps
Alan

Got some Leonard Cohen vibes even though your voice is very different and the song contains a lot of electric guitar! Thanks very much, Alexander. I like the Cohen thought. Marty and Dave, you have produced another masterpiece. Great vocal and lyrics. Super groove. I also got a Leonard Cohen vibe from the lyrics. FWIW - I also thought that Dave's guitar during the leads were a tad to loud. Super bass line! Thanks, Mario. Much appreciated. Subconsciously I seem to use Dave to drown me out. Sounds great Marty! I like the way you're starting to put those chord progressions in there, that's really neat.
You sure do know how to stay on top of the blues.
Great job all around fellas. I can always count on you for some excellent blues material! Thanks, David! I started putting the chords with the words cuz it made it easier when I added bass or figured harmony. Glad you find it helpful. You always sound like you enjoy what you're doing Marty. Everything sounds fine on this (vocal, lyrics and BIAB). Dave's guitar is great but to my ears could be brought down a little closer to the other tracks in volume.
Vic Thanks, Vic. That loud guitar is a result of me adding Dave's track, loving it so much, then mixing it so it stands front and center, Sadly, before posting I forgot to get it back to blending better. It has been fixed, but...

Hi Marty,
I had a listen to this song some days ago on YouTube, but I wasn't able to react then. And while trying to catch up with songs on the forum, because of my break, there was your song (of course). And you know what? I took another listen, this time on SC and I noticed I had the same two feelings as the first time on YT; 1. A very sensitive song, with a fantastic solo by Dave (a bit too loud, as Al said), and that you sing very well. So, well deserved kudos for this, 2. Je bent een religieuze kerel! Je vertelde me dat dat niet zo was, maar je kwam uit de kast (zoals wij dat noemen)... Je zang over de ark van Noach was erg overtuigend!
Well done, Marty Hans
