Melody written by Joseph Philbrick Webster 1860. I tried to learn the picking technique from the great Molly Tuttle and did this version. It's something about some old melodies that is so simple but wonderful. I guess it's the good ones that survived the time.

Soren, agree about how so many old melodies just never get old. Great job on guitar and backing track! You've really got that Ovation sounding lively. Interesting thing about the Instagram post. No idea how that works...

Soren, I really like the sound you've put together here. It's very good quality, I only wish you'd have played it a little longer! It brought back a lot of memories for me. I don't know if you're a Merle Haggard fan, but my dad had a friend, Tommy Collins (real name Leonard Sykes) that had written several songs for Haggard. One of them was called "The Man Who Picked the Wild Wood Flower". It's rare that I don't hear one of those songs without thinking of the other. Here's a link to Haggard singing that song and the story behind if you're interested:
Soren ...that's some really great pickin'......I enjoyed both the song and the video very much!

Thank you guys. I'm not very good at picking but I tried to learn that cool pattern. Molly Tuttle who showed that pattern is truly amazing att picking. Her right hand is fast like a sewing machin! Anywas the part I like best in this song is the chord at 0.33 after a little break. It's a baritone guitar and other instruments from BIAB and I like that full sound there.
Thanks Greg. Then picking pattern every eight notes is string 3,2,1,3,2,1,3,1 or 4,3,2,4,3,2,4,1 etc. I don't play much picking or acoustic guitar but it was fun to try.
I saw now I've put the wrong title on the thread. Memories is another song, this one is of course Wildwood Flower. I must have been tired, lol. I don't know if there is a way to change the thread name?
This is a beautiful version of this old sweet song! It takes me way back to hearing my grandfather playing this and also because it's one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar! Your playing is technically very accurate, and the guitar sounds beautiful!
Soren, I had no idea that melody is that old. Molly and her band just won a Grammy for best bluegrass album. Since you like cross picking and are doing it well check out Bryan Sutton. I enjoyed your rendition of a classic, Tom
