Imagine Band-in-a-Box having a built-in midi soft synth sound module that does not require any programming by the end user, is invisible to the end user, is operating system agnostic and can be customized by PG Music as needed to work within the framework of their programs.

+++ FluidSynth +++ is an open source, real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2 specifications. FluidSynth itself does not have a graphical user interface, but due to its powerful API, several applications utilize it. FluidSynth has even found its way onto embedded systems and is used in some mobile apps.

Cross platform support (Linux, macOS and Windows to name a few)
SoundFont 2 support
SoundFont 3 support (vorbis-compressed SF2)
Realtime effect control using SoundFont 2.01 modulators
Limited support for Downloadable Sounds (DLS) Level 1 & 2
Playback of MIDI files
Shared library which can be used in other programs
Built in command line shell

It appears from the website the software is updated about twice a year.

+++ HERE +++ is a link to the online documentation.

Could definitely be beneficial. BiaB could work 'straight out of the box', so to speak.

Wouldn't that be cool. It could be across the board in Biab and the plugin.

I think FluidSynth has been the de facto MIDI SoundFont synthesizer on Linux for quite a few years now. It's certainly the one I go to.
It's been on Linux and Windows since about 2005 and on MacOS since about 2008.

The other obvious similar synth is TiMidity++, which is also OpenSource and cross-platform.

I've long preferred FluidSynth, but that may just be me.

Jazz relative beginner, starting at a much older age than was helpful.

To really make a difference in how users perceive midi, embedding the +++ FluidSynth +++ midi soundfont player offers new and experienced Band-in-a-Box users a midi experience different from almost any other program that uses midi, it just works. No user setup, no midi driver to mess with. For users working with midi can be the same as working with audio.

Every good midi player deserves mid patches that will make all midi output sound better. +++ Don Allen's Timbres Of Heaven soundfont +++ is one of the best sounding midi instrument patches available. Timbres Of Heaven is also GM, GS and XG compatible. PG Music can find out more about using the Timbres Of Heaven soundfont near the bottom of the webpage +++ HERE +++.
