Dread

stone eyes hide their fires
I turn from what I saw
livestream in technicolour
from the furnace of war
melt my core

I fence out darkness
camped behind bright lights in their eyes
diplomats sip their wine
another desert flower dies
in dreams I try

to take a boat by the compass moon
carry that refugee from this doom

there she sits in the rubble
by the poisoned river bank
Micheal Angelo`s Madonna
holding her broken man
the glass spills its sand

stone eyes hide their fires
I refuse to look
stars turn to shrapnel
saints tire of their water walk
its all just talk

teach me to live that I may dread
the grave no more than my bed
teach me to die that I may wake
my sister my brother no more forsake

Ah, this was my wake-up song this morning. Very touching and so moving, Scott & Robert. The perfect video. So well written and presented. Excellent harmony, and that guitar surely raises the level of the spirit in this song.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Beautiful song, Scott, with a poignant video. The lyrics are excellent and I particularly like:

teach me to live that I may dread
the grave no more than my bed
teach me to die that I may wake
my sister my brother no more forsake

And sadly:
diplomats sip their wine
another desert flower dies

I recall recently reading someone saying that war isn't hell, it's worse as in hell only the evil suffer.

Some favourite Waoist Adages:
#1: Play on the Way.
#13: Ask not for whom the flower blooms, it blooms for you.
#58: Bring consciousness to it.
#63: On the road to effortlessness, effort must be made.
#92: Be Love Now, the rest will come on its own.

SCott & Robert...

A stunning lyric. You have a paint brush that the rest of do not have access to
"I fence out darkness" - like that
"there she sits in the rubble
by the poisoned river bank
Micheal Angelo`s Madonna
holding her broken man
the glass spills its sand" - and that...

Nice guitar work.
A haunting production. Well done, well mixed.

This one is something special.

Wow, you guys are amazing! I'll reuse "epic" only because there's not a better word. Great song, super lead vocals, JUST as super BGVs, and tasteful guitar that serves the song to perfection. Expertly arranged to allow the dynamics to ebb and flow in all the right places. Really loved this

This is very powerful story, sad and touching, unfortunately still timely, full of strong images that speak deeply even without a video. "teach me to live that I may dread the grave no more than my bed" is one of my favorite...
Great instrumentation, the cello and Scott's guitar are the tears that should fall from any eyes watching the furnace of war.
Robert's vocal is full of emotion once again.
Spirit Level lives up to its name. I admire the strong spirit of humanity and the high level of musicianship.

Thanks Greg, Marty, Herb, Bob, Dave and Waoband for checking out the song. When I sent the instrumental to Robert to see if he could find some lyrics for it I was really happy. The song was sounding pretty good by the time we got to the mastering phase. Robert had been developing the video while I was working on the master. When he put the song into the video it just blew me away. The lyrics and the visuals just broke my heart. So glad you liked the song..

Hey this is great guys. I really love the almost surreal moodiness of this. It's very panoramic.

I mean the lyrics are panoramic and the music is panoramic as well.

That's a really exceptional musical production all around.

Really like this one.

Scott’s playing is very delicate and fits perfectly with the fingerpicked guitar and cello RT’s.
The lyric sadly is still very apropos in the world.

Robert’s melancholy vocal sits well in the mix and the choir is a nice touch.
Those eyes in the video say it well.

Sad indeed but very well done!
