On The Sunny Side Of The Street

Hi Folks,

Here is my version of the Jazz Standard "On The Sunny Side Of The Street" - a 1930 song composed by Jimmy McHugh with lyrics by Dorothy Fields.
Recorded by just about every Jazz and R&B artist in the last 100 years including: Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole, Dave Brubeck, Earl Hines, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, Erroll Garner, Dizzy Gillespie, Art Tatum, James Booker, Count Basie, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Doris Day, Brenda Lee, Frankie Laine, Keely Smith, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson and Rod Stewart to name just a few.

Featuring:
Vocals and arrangement - Nigel Spiers
Bass: Neil Swainson 1387
Piano - Miles Black 1882, 3506
Drums - Craig Scott Jazz Brushes
Guitar - Oliver Gannon 558
Sax - P.J. Perry 438

Cool. Love this song. Guess since it was composed in 1930 it's not in the public domain yet. Godd version here, Nigel. Heard nearly all you mentioned, but my favorite is Dizzy --he actually sings it (after a lengthy hormn intro wink )

Enjoy whatever happens!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Finely aged jazz not infirm by a long shot. I'm a little envious of the alto sax because all of the samples I've tried haven't been good enough for what I've been doing, whereas tenors always have been.

Classic jazz at its best.
Great vocal and instrumentation.
Great mix.

Nigel, a very joyful take on this wondrous standard. Love your vocals as always, and particularly nice job on the solo on this one. Super mix, too. Just...jazzy, man!

Ahhhmmm back! Was talking about alto sax players last night, and somehow we ended up discussing song interpretations and this song was mentioned. I brought everyone in to hear this and it was a sensation, Nigel. Just had to tell ya that folks here love ya.

Enjoy whatever happens!

Nigel,

Excellent version of this classic tune! Your vocal works really well with this and that alto sax solo is wonderful. Terrific production on this to boot! I'm plus one to all the accolades above. Well done!

All my best.
