A new one from me smile See what you think? All comments, feedback, etc., welcome ... thanks so much for taking the time to listen! Once more, a big THANKS to PG Music; without you, none of this would be possible.

Hail Mary

HAIL MARY (the lyrics):

Hail Mary, full of grace,
Hail Mary, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,
blessed is the fruit of thy womb;
Blessed art thou among women,
blessed is thy Son, Jesus Christ!

Blessed art thou, Holy One;
blessed is He who'll be born!
Blessed art thou, among women, and blessed is
the fruit of thy womb, the Lord Christ ...

Holy Mary, Mother of God
pray for us, sinners,
Now and in the hour ...
Now and in the hour of our death.

Hi James,

You are getting there with the synth vocals I think. Still a bit of an issue with some of the phrasing, "blessed" for example sounds a bit off.

I like the flute melody, are you playing that on a keyboard?

Overall very nice, enjoyed!

James, this sounds great.
Super flute leads.
Nice job with that synth vocal.
Super backing band and mix.

Hi Dave, thanks for your kind comment. Yep, "blessed" is indeed off, looks like I didn't get the right phonemas (is that the word?) out of the singer. I will fix that, thanks for noticing! No, I wrote the flute music (as with the solo voice part) in Musescore 4, and exported it as MIDI. Saves a beginner like me all the trouble trying to quantise things, afterwards?

Thanks for your kind comments, once more! smile

Hi, James.

Interesting choice for backing! And a nice melody.

I like the flute, too. smile

A few nits, most probably stemming from not knowing how to handle a melisma in SynthV.

Singing "hail" as "Hay-yul" is a bit... wrong. It's a single syllable, so the second note would be part of a melisma. To do that in SynthV, put the word hail in the first note, and then a dash - for the lyric on all following notes to indicate it's part of the prior syllable. This can be repeated for as many notes as you need. Use + to indicate where the next syllable of a word goes. That can also be extended with at -. Use a + for the next syllable, and so on.

The word "blessed" is being pronounced as B L EY - EH S T, when it should either be B L EH S T (one syllable) or B L EH S - IH D (two syllables). Both pronunciations are acceptable. I suspect that the issue here is again how you're doing two-note words, since it pronounced the one note version correctly.

The just as "Lord" is a title, so too is "Christ". It means "anointed one". So you'll see "Jesus Christ" or "Jesus, the Christ", and even "Christ Jesus" in the New Testament. But you won't find "Lord Christ", because it's akin to saying "King Anointed One" - you've only used the titles, but left out the name. wink

"Now and at the hour" sounds a bit weird, because SynthV chooses AH N D by default, when it would be more typically EH N D or AE N D... at least, to my American ears. Feel free to disagree.

"Pray for us, sinners". I'll note the comma is artistic license on your part, as are a couple of the other lines. wink

Anyway, nice work.

David Snyder: thanks!

floyd: thank you smile

David Cuny: you are a miracle - thank you. That's exactly what was going on ... I was going spare on how to handle the pronunciation quirks of a singer who, whatever I tried, would just not find the right pronunciation for "blessed", etc. . Eventually, I just gave up and said: "have it your way", lol. THANKS for explaining to me how to handle two syllable words in Synth V ... invaluable, I thought I was going to lose my patience with trying to get it right, lol smile

"Sinners" is another spot where I just said: "argh, have it your way", lol. I will go back and fix things smile

"Lord Christ": of course. I was aware of them both being titles - I just thought I could get away with "the Lord Christ" meaning "the Annointed King", or something like that. Evidently not wink haha ....... THANK YOU so much for ALL of your help, it really is great to learn how to use these voices properly. They have SO MUCH potential - if one does know a little of what one is doing, of course ... smile

James, this is an interesting composition musically, I enjoyed listening to it. The use of the bluesy piano at the center of a very old school "sacred" lyric was inspired. Very creative.

Ron, thanks. I just thought: "hey, the lyric conveys good news - why make it 'boring' ?", haha. Wanted to modernise it, make it sound almost like a party, make the joy of hearing the good news as modern and as "real" as possible ... so I went for the blues/gospel sound. Glad you liked it! I've got to do a LOT of work on it, now, to tidy it up, as per David Cuny's kind suggestions ... but the basis of the song is there. Thanks for listening and for commenting! smile

Hi James,

Such a lovely song! That flute fits so nicely - excellent choice. I agree with the comments about the word "blessed". Since I know nothing about programming synth voices, I can offer no suggestions. i would trust David's suggestions, nonetheless - he's pretty good with that stuff.

Very pretty and inspirational lyric and delivery.

As always, your music shines.
