Hello, I am using the export to MIDI-feature quite often. And I am havin quite a hard time when it comes to naming of the tracks. I know that not all tracks get exported. But where can I control the naming and the voicing of the exported tracks? F.e. the is a lead vocal in BIAB. I want it to be exported as Vocals_LEAD and the MIDI-voicing "Voice Oohs". Instead the default export of BIAB calls the track "Melody" and the voicing "Vibraphone". Can't I customize the MIDI-export so that it suites my needs for naming conventions? ![[Linked Image - Only viewable when logged in]](https://www.pgmusic.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=download&Number=28337&filename=image_2024_06_30T05_33_10_868Z.png)

Right click > Track Actions > Save Track As WAV File on each mixer track. When the Save As window appears, delete the automatic file name and type in whatever file name you want.

I am confused, you say you want to export midi, but you are apparently working with the RT audio files?

I am confused, you say you want to export midi, but you are apparently working with the RT audio files? Me too. I didn't follow. We know that some RealTracks have MIDI transcriptions, but it appeared from the screen capture that the exports in the highlighted area were all to audio files.

To clear up the confusion: I export all lanes (tracks) as audio files. I let BIAB render them. BIAB renders all lanes (tracks), regardless of its type.
Then I export MIDI.BIAB does not export all lanes (tracks) as MIDI files cause for some tracks that information does not exist. (I think that isfor all the lanes (tracks) where accompanying instruments play and they have the chord track available).
In the attached screenshot I try to find out about how the files are named by BIAB and how they fit together.
I want to control the export of the MIDI (description and patch). To me it would be great if BIAB would name the MIDI according to the naming of the rendered audio tracks.

The export is MIDI files. I then import those MIDI files into Guitar Pro (which is at the botttom of the screenshot).
In the Guitar Pro import screen one gets lost when one tries to track back which of the BIAB lanes (tracks) is what. Look at the Vocals from BIAB. The rendered audio file is named OK.
Bit when I import the MIDI then there is no lane (track) named "Vocals". It is called "Melody BB" and the patch is "Vibraphone".
I would exspect that BIAB names the corresponding MIDI track "Vocals" too and the patch "Voice Oohs" or "Lead, Voice".

OK, I think I understand the "issue" at hand now. I have been down this rabbit hole in the past. I have only found ways to avoid the issues by adjusting my workflow and correcting all naming and patch assignments, when the tracks hit my DAW. I suspect that Guitar Pro may not as flexible with file naming adjustment.
A long way of saying, Sorry I can't help you with this.

Thanks, Dan. I am just where You were "in the past" and try to find out a workflow that is satisfying and easy. The thing that interests me most are answers to 3. and 4. Because changing in BIAB would be at the start of the workflow and if I export multiple times (what I expect), it would be best changed there.

RBG, you confusing Realtrack and real drum names with general midi names. If you export the charts or midi track associated with the Real tracks it is guitar pro that is giving you different names. BiaB and guitar pro can’t read each other’s mind. The midi charts are not standard midi files they are simply to drive notation. However a couple years back PGM decided to allow users to export them to drive chord tracks or create simple no frills midi track. They are picking up GM patches in guitar pro. So in reality they are working as expected.

I only want to change the track names in BIAB (like "Bass (BB)"), so that is reflected not only in the exported audio files but in the exported MIDI file, too.

Currently you can not achieve that in MIDI tracks; I rarely use RTs so I can not comment on that. For instance a MIDI track in BiaB is labeled mandolin when dragged and dropped into my DAW Studio One Pro the track name might be piano, guitar, or any other of the original track names. Unfortunately that is just the way it is even though this request previously has been in the wishlist forum.

Thanks anyone for clearing this up. My vote for getting this up in the wishlist. Should not be too hard to implement.

I think it is a pure BIAB Bug (it has probably not been tested).
I think the user expectation is that the tracks are exported with the same name/title as the track title as shown in the Mixer or Track views and not with any hard coded default names for the tracks.
If I change the track title for each track with the Track Setting - Rename Track Title. Those names are used for the tracks within BIAB ie in the mixer and the track views. Those are the track names that I refer to in my production for the song and I would expect the same names/titles to be used when exporting a track.
BIAB 2025, Studio One 7 Pro, Song Master Pro, Win11 Home. i7-9700K CPU, 32GB, ESI MAYA44eX, Guitar Pro 8, Transcribe, (EZKeys2, EZD3, SD3, EZBass, EZMix3) Amateur: fiddle, guitar, vocal, beginner on bass.

@shlind Yes exactly. And even more: Those are the names that BIAB uses for the exported tracks when You render audio.
Only when You export MIDI BIAB ignores the user chosen names and goes with the old identifiers. It is a bug or at least an inconsisteny.
